Ruler Of The World won a substandard Derby IMO, but a great run by Libertarian to finish second and has a very good chance of winning the St Leger if he runs in it. Dawn Approach. Looks like he'll be raced over distances between 8 to 10 furlongs from now on. Did Ryan Moore manage to raise a smile?
My own comment was not intended to be unfair, the horse really did..........behave like a jackass early on, surely?
Front 3 home all proper mile and a half horses with proper mile and half (plus) pedigrees. Delighted with the 16s e/w on Libertarian though I think if he'd been ridden slightly more handily or at least asked to move up to be more handy come Tattenham Corner then he might well have won that.
DA has always reportedly been in angel to deal with, but don't forget that his sire was a loon on the racecourse, perhaps there is a streak of that trait in his progeny.
Has DA ever been asked to run that slow before? No. Coolmore knew exactly what they were doing though I can't believe BOM was supposed to hit the front as soon as he did.
Yes, that's true PNkt, remember New Approach was indeed a handful. What I could not understand was that as far as I can tell DA has never messed around like that before, maybe because it was all too easy. I've been to a few Derbys as I come from around there, and the atmosphere is electric to put it mildly. Must surely get to more than a few top racehorses on days such as this?
All that's happened is the pace was too slow for him. It's not rocket science. He not a mile and a half horse. He's too precocious.
George: Very good point, that's probably what it was. Haven't looked-up the race time yet...............*** *** TIME 2m 39.06s (slow by 4.26s)
I think Buick could have done better on Libertarian and I have to admit that when I saw Galileo Rock in 3rd and cruising round Tattenham Corner I thought he'd piss it.
Afternoon all - on a side note from Epsom just watched the 3 runner race at Donny and Tom Queally this season is an absolute joke (no bet so not pocket talk) as I am a big fan of Sir Henry and his horses but how he keeps his job is beyond me ??? He cannot dictate a pace from the front and when he holds a horse up in a 3 runner race still leaves it too late to catch the front runner - ??? His judgement is poor to say the least - I think he only has the job for the last few years because of Frankel - surerly Sir Henry could get a better jockey than him ??
Everyone saying great tactics by Ballydoyle not setting a decent gallop but surely logic tells me that if you want to test a horses stamina you set a good strong pace. They got lucky that he played up today but I dont think it really mattered as he patently DOES NOT STAY. Being controversial here but at least they had a go and didnt just stay in the comfort zone unlike last years "wonder horse". Makes me laugh how this board is so Ballydoyle obsessed. The bollocks recently spouted about Enke cheating Camelot out of the Triple Crown springs to mind! rant over!
Gents, the Derby for me was the last race I was interested in this season having tied my colours to the mast of Toronado. Despite his non appearance, I thought this was a really interesting Derby- hence why I have continued my interest in it- and so it proved. I have followed racing in both codes for long enough now. I'm at that point where I've just lost interest. Some of my selections have shown it too- a bit half-hearted. I've watched Hurricane Fly win, lose, and win back a Champion Hurdle. I've seen Workforce lose a Dante, win a Derby, lose a King George and win an Arc. I've seen Camelot get within a whisker of a Triple crown, the rebuilding of St Nicholas Abbey and watched Frankel destroy everything. I watched the magic of Kauto Star stun everyone to win a Betfair Chase and a King George again. The next generation of horses are all coming through now and there's not any real connection from what I latched on to the start, and I'll be genuinely leaving the forum! I said something similar a while back but went back on myself, but that was different circumstances. There were some fun winners- Eagles Peak, Spanish Duke (20/1 at Epsom one year), Was (50/1 tip from RV!), Workforce (Cats always said he'd be a champion!), Medici Time, Gamilati (16/1 when she won a Group race as a 2 Y O for Godolphin!) and of course Lord Windermere (my 80/1 winner from the Betfair antepost market at Cheltenham this year!). Amongst that, there were hundreds of losers of course. Ron- thankyou for the magic job you've done on organising this forum. Seriously- a brilliantly put together site. As for the tipsters and commenters- likewise. I'll refrain from commenting purely to avoid the risk of becoming attached again. The horses and the racing will continue- its the same circus in town but with some new performers. It's been interesting. Cheltenham previews can organise themselves next time!- bastard things Seriously though guys- all the best with whatever you are upto and whatever you have planned. Just wanted you to know why- that's all As always, Happy debating! -Toppy
