Victor Ludorum pulled his chance away early on. I am surprised he managed to run any sort of race after his antics in the early part of the race. Straight forward enough for Mishriff in the end but it helped that his only real rival in the betting blew his chance with probably his worst ever display of keenness. In the 1.50 Jumby also pulled too hard. He did start a run but he never really picked up. Probably just hasn't built on his debut. Dhahabi had to be pushed along to keep tabs early and he probably needs more time. I thought he was way too short today and although he worked into the race he was never going to catch Saint Lawrence, who was clear top rated on an OR of 98. The Varian horse had been 4th to Master Of The Seas in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes and he represented the form in the book versus the potential of the lightly raced ones. 13/2 was the odds of reward for those who took the "Bird in the hand" angle.
3.00 Newbury The 3YO horses look uninspiring so I went with Alginak, who posted a personal best last time. There should be more to come from him and with the stable in hot form I felt he was the one to be with. Morando and Communique could both win at their best but that looks iffy, especially after the latter stank the place out at Goodwood last time. 3.00 Newbury Alginak 10/3
A winner at last, well done Hayley (don't recall saying that before!) And the enquiry klaxon has just sounded Ronnie O leads 3-1 at the mid session interval in the snooker. No tantrums as far as I know, as yet anyway! Max Vega next at Noobs
As my original selection is a nr here at Donny I'm going ew on ELIXSOFT 10/1, hoping the high draw helps
Megallan looked very smart for John Gosden today. He was up against an odds-on Godolphin newcomer but the Appleby horse was a flop. Megallan showed a good turn of speed to take control and won by a shade over three lengths eased down. I would say it's been a disappointing season so far for the Gosden 2YO's but this son of Kingman looks the real deal to me. The dam Eastern Belle ran in the Nassau as an outsider when trained by Gosden and Megallan holds a Derby entry but that trip must be a question. You might think a poke in something like the Royal Lodge in a normal year might be followed by the Racing Post/Futurity in a normal season if they felt he was good enough. He was really flying at the end of today's race and went through the line full of running with more to give. I was impressed enough to have an interest in the 2000 Guineas for next year simply because the colt has a lot going for him. Winning at a mile with the ability to quicken like that and over the course and distance of the 2000 Guineas seemed good assets. Very early days and Gosden is a hoodoo in the 2000 Guineas but there are a lot in the market for the race that do not appeal to me and another win for Megallan will see his odds tumble from the 33/1 now.
I was on Ventura Diamond last time, as a filly I felt looked ready for 6F after a decent debut 4th over the minimum trip. She duly obliged that day and I commented at the time that she looked like a 7th furlong would suit. They have stepped her up to 7F today, as she makes her handicap debut from a mark of 80 in a small field nursery. With the comments I made and then seeing the scenario unfold along those lines, I had to stay with her at 9/4 in a 5 runner field. 3.50 Newmarket Ventura Diamond 9/4
Modest e/w on Mac Ailey in the apprentice race at Doncaster (18:10). Very open affair, but has fair form for this event.
You dont suppose correctly. Young Georgia didnt look that able today, definitely should have been third at worst!
