Get your big kaounas on Rory the kid next week Shergs :)

I can't seem to get him right at the moment, when I back him he flops, and when I'm against him he wins. I lumped on at Wentworth and the masters, but missed his wins in the match play and Wells Fargo.

Well, as expected, Germany demolished little Gibraltar, but it took them long enough to get going. You know, those German fans continue to tee me off with their utterly stupid "Oh wie schön" ("Oh how beautiful") chant. Was that necessary against the football hamlet of Gibraltar, I think not? Blockheads. Didn't hear it against the USA the other night.................<whistle>

(I did notice that trainer Löw did not look at all pleased during and after the match, despite the goalfest by his team. He commented that the performance and behaviour of his players bordered on arrogance).

What exceptional tipping from QM - I make that 5-1, 9-2, and 11-4 winners from 3 selected.

Followed up with Sticks 15-2 - not easy prices to come by, very well done.

Thanks for the shout but I should point out that when I do a write-up, I put the ones that I am actually having any money on in CAPITALS. Hence the only one carrying my money was WAADY. I was only watching Basem (Farhh’s full brother) first time out but I did not have a dime on him and I left Twilight Son alone as the bookies had framed it as a two horse race in a twenty runner field and both of them had been raised more than ten pounds. I note that the favourite was hammered from 9/2 down to 7/4 but they did not push anything much out to keep the book round – Yorkshire punters easily fleeced. I think Twilight Son was about the only decent result for punters at York yesterday.

Wow. I was not expecting Star Of Seville to take that. Great ride and she stayed on powerfully to win cosily enough from a decent field.

Well he landed the each way money in the Masters Shergy and don't tell me you go on the nose in golf do ya <yikes> Think he'll go well in the U.S. Open, he's been freshened up a bit <laugh>

Chambers Bay is an absolute brutal course and unless it pours rain I can't have McIlroy anywhere near winning it. This is going to be something they have not come across often and your looking at anything from +2 to +5 winning, if there's someone under par after 4 days here it will be some feat. I hope McIlroy does go well but this is a challenge that most definitely won't play to his strengths. The 14 th here will be the longest par 4 they've ever played, it's a monster as it most of the course. Accuracy off the tee and short game will rule the day here.

It's gonna be a brilliant spectacle to watch and I hope it does play tougher than they imagine even. US Opens are notoriously hard and after a few "soft" years I hope the tournament gets its own back this upcoming week.

Good insight STH and I've heard a few judges ruling out Rory quite categorically too. I stress my golfing knowledge is just as limited as my horse racing but the length of the course is giving me hope Rory's monstrous length of the tee should keep him very competitive. I'll be hoping he's enhanced to around 8s maybe 9s on Thursday morning (like he was for the Masters) so I can have a decent each way punt backed up my old pal Rickie Fowler and A N Other. Who do you like mate? Always like the majors, can't wait for St Andrews!

If McIlroy is striping it and his short game is holding up he can contest, no doubt. It does seem foolish to rule the best player in the world out but his strengths here can get him in a lot of trouble as he's a bomber and sometimes less is more especially at difficult US Opens. As I said, I hope he has a good week as it generates even more interest around our parts. I like Fowler too Beefy and according to all the noise from his camp they reckon he will be thereabouts too.

I haven't decided yet really, I will sit down within the next few days and mull over my 2 bets! I'm always drawn to Furyk at US Opens as he finds fairway after fairway but them his short game can be sketchy at times.

A lot of the pros have been giving out over the course already and Poulter got slated on twitter a few weeks back for tweeting that some pros didn't like it! Harsh, he was only saying publicly was they were saying to him, he didn't personally criticise the course but it is a brute <ok> but it's a magnificent course too.

Might start a thread here or in the general betting board perhaps tomorrow because I'm sure a good few will be having a bet for this major.

I was looking at backing Dustin Johnson for the US Open, but having heard he pulled out of this weeks tournament after 9 holes due to "illness", I'm not sure now how confident I'd be that he'd be up to contending for a major at such a brutal course. My interest in him has somewhat cooled. There's a few outwith the main guys at the top of the betting that I've been looking at, Brandt Snedeker(66/1) and Brooks Koepka(50/1). Usually do ok at the golf majors but the US Open is by far my worst one, only had the winner of it once. It's always such a hard tournament to predict

Strange one that was Fabio. Still haven't heard the actual reason he retired this week. Saying illness but what illness! Koepka is having a good week too, still in with a shout for the St.Jude here and has plenty of European tour experience which will have improved his shot shaping a lot to contest a US Open. Could be a good dark horse.

"Google" Bubba putting at Chambers Bay to get a peek at what the greens are rolling like <ok> good ol' Bubba

I've liked Koepka for a while, have been following his progress and this is the first time I've thought he could now be up to winning a major. Think a US Open could be his best chance, he seems the type to do well under the tough playing conditions and not lose his head too much. He done well at the US Open and USPGA last year, and he won his first pga tournament at the start of this year, think he could be ready to kick on and go for a big one.

I bet McIlroy on the nose in the masters because he was single figure odds, probably should have bet EW, but hindsights easy in gambling.

Il probably have a bet on Phil Mickelson next week, as he's playing well tonight, and most experts seem to think the course will suit him.

As we know Mickelson is very wayward off the tee, but the course is long and has wide fairways, so he can have a real go at the longer holes. And his amazing short game around the green will hopefully bail him out if he ends up in any green side bunkers

Mickelson definitely deserves a US Open..6 times runner up in the tournament. Wonder what odds you would get to back him to finish 2nd on his own

Another point to note is the grass. This course is the only course outside of Great Britain and Ireland to use Fescue grass. That grass is the grass typical of a links course here to you and me so the home based players will have had more experience of it even though it's in America. Could be a pointer to another homegrown winner or European player that has had success on Links here. And remember although it looks and plays like links it is not an actual links golf course!

Hey lads I've set up a separate thread especially for the golf on the betting board. I'm on the phone so I can't really write up much detail but all we really wanna know is who your on and how they go. Please get on and post your thoughts <ok>
