This is ridiculous. Punters who backed Manxman will get nothing because the on course stewards referred the matter to the Whip Review Committee. According to chief steward (former jockey) Tony McGlone they counted Jamie Powell hitting his mount ten times and interviewed the jockey. Why do they have to leave it three days for someone else to make a decision? That has got to be the longest VAR check in any sport. There is clearly no obvious reason of safety to explain the apprentice rider breaking the rules. Can he not count? I note that McGlone also stated that another jockey in the race has been referred to the Committee for striking his mount eight times. I am sure somebody will now be watching replays of the race and counting to see who that was as McGlone did not name the individual. It would be ironic if it was apprentice Sean D Bowen on the runner-up as being two over the limit will not get his mount disqualified but will get him banned. Unfortunately neither of these incidents are mentioned in the available Newmarket Stewards’ report but Gordon Elliott reported that heavily backed Ndaawi did not stay, Willie Muir reported that Shagpyle did not stay and Hughie Morrison reported that Premiere Ligne did not like the soft ground.
Cuthbert Dibble was the 150th racehorse to die on the track in the UK this year. Up 10 from the same time last year.
