What a congestion of fixtures today only two bets I am having BRAZEN BEAU in the July cup and AROD in the summer mile . The Australian horse nearly pulled off a near victory when having a bad ride he looks special and can see him winning well
Captain's Dilemma 14/1 Tippereary 2.40 - rates a sporting each way chance in a tricky handicap. Captains Dilemma is 2lb below his last winning mark and that victory came over today's CD last August. Chris Hayes takes the reigns as Pat Smullen is in England riding and with many looking handicapped to their limit I will side with the Captain in hope the Tippereary air revives him. Edit: Non Runner.
Had my usual stab at scoop 6 and ew lucky 63: 2:00 Newmarket - Western Reserve 11/2 2:20 York - Montaly 7/1 2:55 York - Kingsgate Native 10/1 3:10 Newmarket - Heaven's Guest 14/1 3:25 York - Fire Fighting 12/1 3:45 Newmarket - Brazen Beau 5/2 The very best of luck to Stick and The Don with Squire, i've had a little go at 9s. Am also on an outsider Kastini at 25s in the same race so done the reverse forecast
fair enough the bookies make plenty of cash out of racing, however bookmakers offer a lot more value than a tote system
After nearly 32 years of continuous employment I have as of yesterday joined the ranks of the feckless unemployed. My kindly employers did graciously offer me the chance to do the work of 2 people for 25% less dough which, following a milliseconds consideration, I declined. Anyway now I've joined the feckless I thought why not blow some redundancy on something of which I know absolutely nothing.... flat racing. So an ew lucky 31 on these: Ascot 2.45 Cable Bay 5.05 Oceane 5.40 Squire Newmarket 2.35 Hayadh 3.10 Related Also burdened Squire with a single. Good luck Stick and Don.
Who was the best winner of the July Cup in it's history? Abernant won it twice in 1949 and 1950. Moorestyle in 1980 and Marwell in 1981. I'm old enough to remember Royal Academy winning the race in 1990, before finishing second to possibly the best sprinter of all time in Dayjur (Haydock Park Sprint Cup) then ending his career by winning the Breeders Cup Mile. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/July_Cup
Good luck for the future Chaninbar. I was made redundant in 2011 and, though I was out of work for a bit, it turned out to be a good thing for me it the greater scheme of things. Changed direction slightly and very happy in the job I have now. You'll be glad to know I haven't burdened any of your selections with my money (except for Squire). Amongst a bewildering array of no-hopers I have cursed Oracolo 2.00 Newmarket; Spongy 4.55 Newmarket; and Musaddas 1.45 York in an e/w patent.
Best of luck with Squire lads.Three I like today. Tipp 2.45-Oor Jock win 4s.Been keeping an eye on this lad and ran well lto to come 2nd over 5 fls even though he missed the kick.He won this race last year over 7fls and runs off a nice mark Nket 2.35-Air Vice Marshall win.I was very impressed with the manner of his win lto at Gowran and should be able to take this. Nket 3.45-Compensation awaits for aussie raider Brazen Beau after unlucky 2nd at Ascot.Powers are going 10/3 til 1pm, I'm on.
With my only selection Captain's Dilemma now a N/R I have decided too to back Kool Kompany here Robbie. Big drop in grade and is drawn slightly better than current favourite Zarwaan. If he handles the track he must go close.
These horses who should run well today. 3.55 Ascot, Fyrecracker. Seems to run his best races at the track. William Buick rides. 4.55 Newmarket, Aleko. Never coped with the undulations of Epsom on it's last run. Entered in Group 1 National Stakes at the Curragh. 2.55 York, Out Do. Beaten twice in small fields since winning a 15-runner C&D handicap at York off top weight in May. 4.35 York, William Of Orange. Finished 3rd on it's last run at Goodwood. Winner of that race won Old Newton Cup last week.
It is very hard to look beyond Brazen Beau in the July Cup. We will find out whether there is a top class three year old sprinter in the yard when Muhaarar takes him on, but the race is a no bet at the prices. In the opener at Newmarket, there is a very interesting jockey booking: Pat Smullen riding for Lady Cecil on WESTERN RESERVE. The last race form has taken a knock with Awesome Power running a stinker but with just three runs under his belt, Khalid Abdullah’s gelding can beat David Simcock’s Oracolo, trying for a hat-trick off an eleven pound higher mark. There is not much of a spread in the weights in the Bunbury Cup with less than a stone between top and bottom, but how about the bottom weight Firmdecisions to complete a hat-trick. Over at Ascot it looks very hard to get away from AROD in the Summer Mile off level weights. Bow Creek was very disappointing on his seasonal debut and the unbeaten Lightning Spear is taking a big step up in class. Sorry fellas, but I think that Squire may be racing against a gelding that has been leniently treated by the handicapper in Think Ahead although he should reverse Sandown placings with Solo Hunter now that one is not ridden by a seven pound claimer. Over at York, there are some trappy handicaps but ASTRONEREUS skipped the Old Newton Cup last week to run here and can reward followers on his first venture beyond a mile and a half in the Silver Cup (2:20). In the feature race (3:25, what used to be the Magnet Cup) the two market leaders both drop in trip and have wide draws so I would be interested in Mark Johnston’s Sennockian Star from his low draw if I have any money left by then!
Thanks Bob and Harbottle for those kind words. Not a bad time of year to be off work. Nice weather and plenty of sport to enjoy.
Oor Jock misses the break and gets beat by half a lenght again, oh the joys of the flat! I also got the oul redundancy Chan and was four months outta work. Was great though!
Same here too - took voluntary redundancy after 16 years - and enjoying this month off at least - plenty of racing / golf and cricket to watch
