    Cool Kid 100/1

This represents a bit of a stab in the dark and not something to invest more than a few quid in but based on former comments by Ger Lyons I think Eoin Griffin's 4 year old is worth a play at a massive price. Cool Kid has only had 2 starts in his career- one on the flat and one over hurdles - and appears to be a very quirky animal. Twice for Ger Lyons he refused to load and on his first start for Eoin Griffin he refused at the last when well beaten. Cool Kid made his debut for Lyons back in September on good/good to firm ground and showed a bit of ability. After being outpaced early on, he made a decent amount of progress but was ultimately a well beaten 7th. The 2nd and 3rd n that race are now rated in the 90s so it wasn't a bad maiden. Prior to refusing for the first time Ger Lyons, who appears very honest, stated on his facebook page that "Cool Kid is a lovely big horse who has a knee action so should handle soft ground. If he does he'll run very well. Same family as Frederick Engels" and followed it up with "I like Cool Kid alot but he gets claustrophobic in stalls". As a result of his reluctance to load, he was subsequently sold and is has now embarked upon a career over hurdles

Cool Kid made his debut for Griffin at the Christmas Festival in Leopardstown where he refused at the last after being well beaten. That day he jumped horrendously to his right at every hurdle and hopefully Griffin has schooled him and removed this quirk as he won't be doing anything without it. Naas is a left handed track like Leopardstown so if he still has a propensity to jump wayward it will be fully exposed at this track. However, there are definitely a few positives still. Based on Ger Lyons comments, the soft/heavy ground will suit a lot better than the good to yielding ground he encountered on his hurdling debut. Furthermore, Cool Kid was entered into a Grade 2 the day before he made his debut which he didn't get into which indicates to me that his new connections also think a fair bit about him. Andrew McNamara looks a good jockey booking today and if he doesn't jump right handed today and the ground suits then he may make the frame at a big price.

    May's Boy 12/1

Like the look of Mark Usher's 4 year old colt a fair deal whose latest effort I am willing to overlook. 2 starts back, May's Boy came 5th beaten 3.5L and was dropped 2lb for that effort to a mark of 76 in a race won by Sunset Kitty, who I think sets a very good standard. The Form of the race already taken a boost with the 2nd Shifting Star winning on his next outing off a 1lb higher mark. That race was May's Boy's first race for about 4 months and it looked as though he'd come on a fair bit for that race. On his last start May's Boy was desperately disappointing over C+D as he just didn't pick up at all when asked. However, I heard trainer Mark Usher give an interview on ATR earlier in the week where he said that May's Boy is in great form at present so I am willing to overlook his latest effort as an off day at the track.

As a result of his last poor performance May's Boy has been dropped a further 3lb to a mark of 73 and I think he looks very well handicapped now. Although 3lb above his last winning mark, he put in an excellent 1.25L beaten 4th off a mark of 80 over C+D in a Class 4 and if replicating that form he should be very hard to beat. Another significant note is May's Boy has been dropped in grade to a Class 5 which should make things a lot easier for him today. Rachel Kneller takes the ride today and with her 7lb claim May's Boy races off an effective mark of 66 which further enhances his claims. Trainer Mark Usher is in blistering form at the moment with 1 win and 3 narrowly beaten 2nds from his last 4 runners which just strengthens my confidence in his chances today. Although this C+D winner doesn't have the best draw in stall 5, its only a 7 runner race so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. If overlooking his last effort which Mark Usher seemed to indicate during the week, I can see May's Boy going very, very close to landing this and I'm having a medium sized win bet in the hope he can do so

For those of you who know of Pipey's Bobby Ewing it's not good news I'm afraid. He died on the gallops after a heart attack today.

    MIDNIGHT OIL 3/1 at Nass.

Ought to go close, not keen on the favourite unless the form of his 14L behind Darroun is exceptional.

Had a small saver on Captains Dilemma ar 48s on Betfair- ran in a Grade 2 on just 2nd start and might be up to running into the frame at large odds. Not been seen for some time though which is a worry.
