Attitudes toward our results always seem relative the those of the other club's results around us. Take last Saturday for example.

We got a point at Huddersfield and went 11 points clear at the top. Everyone jumps up and down with the overall outcome because Leicester, Hull and Boro all lost on the same day, and Watford and Palace had a stalemate draw the previous night. Wonderful!!

What would the atmosphere have been like on here on the weekend if say Leicester and Hull had won their games? Instead of increasing our lead to 11 points, it would've been cut to 8 points by both teams (as it is now after Hull won last night). I suspect more of a sanguine approach would have been taken to our draw if that was the case.

Should we play safe and try not to lose games rather than go all out for wins in the hope that the chasing clubs continue to slip up against the likes of Posh and fail to catch us?

We've still got to play Hull, Leicester, Watford and Boro and three of them are away, so it seems to make sense against those as it'll obviously keep them behind us - but what about the rest?

I only ask because, dependent upon your point of view, Malky appeared to take the safe option on Saturday at half time to preserve the point rather than go all out for the full monty.
 
Taken to its logical conclusion......if we went all out for wins & managed to win half, lose half then that would leave us with 88 points = promotion. If we settled for a point in remaining fixtures & actually got them, then we'd have 80 points = not enough.

As Sparkey has eluded to I believe we ought to err on the side of caution against Hull, Leicester, Watford and Boro & go all out in the rest.

At the end of the day though its' horses for courses & Malky & the guys will play whats' in front of them & adjust tactics accordingly.

I'd be perfectly happy with a point on Saturday to be honest. Let's face it, we'd be nine points ahead. Having said that, it's at this time of year, in a position like our when we can start to get a bit greedy. Fact is that teams are going to come here with nothing to lose. If we keep picking up points we'll be fine, although it could make it tight towards the end.
Even though we've been doing that (picking up points , that is) I feel like we're due a really good win and that could come this Saturday. I've erred on the side of caution and gone fro 2-1. But really, let's not lose it. WE don't ahve the excuse of not having a young and hungry striker anymore. He looks quick, doesn't he.

Lots of ifs and buts there Sparkey, I think you need lessons in the NFFC way.

On Saturday we opened the gap by an extra 1 point FACT
Today we are 8 points ahead of Hull with a game in hand FACT
We have 9 HOME games left and only 7 away FACT

Before the 2 away games at Leeds and Huddersfiled most of us would have been happy with 4 points.

While possibly the same can be said for the next 2 homes games, winning at home is the key for us - 9 home wins = 27 points = 91 in total.

Okay if realistic a draw v. Leicester is not bad as it takes 2 points off them as well and leaves us with 89, we must aim to win the otehr 8 where, in the makin, teams will sit back and expect us to attack them. Obviously any away points also picked up add to the total and would secure is the title.

So for me, go for the wins at home. We certainly have the players to do it.
 
I don't know about the rest of you guys, but for me, being satisfied with a point is a bit like coitus interuptus - it nearly came off but withdraw was the safe option.

Sometimes you got to lick your wounds and take your disappointment on the chin.

So it goes down to if HH was the safe option or if Cowie, Noone or Mason would have increased our chance of scoring, I must admit I'm not sure they would have.

Alas, we'll never know. It's all about "opinions" - that's what decent football supporters on a decent football forum should discuss. <ok>

Also I realised we can't get 138 points now - how about going for a nice round 100?
 
I would like to see Noone back on Saturday. We are much more of a threat when he plays. I appreciate he might not have been the right player on some of the crappy pitches we have endured away from home but on our beautiful pristine grass carpet which has had no serious football for 5 weeks on Saturday he will be the man to tear the Wurzel full backs new ar$eholes.

Notice also that Helga has not scored since Noone was benched.

Anyway its bloody cold enough in Newport today to be the ice age. Still about 60F on the Porthcawl Riviera Sparks?

But if MM insists on giving HH some gametime it would be helpful to have CN on the pitch with the ability to put the ball on his bonce. Agreed OS?

Agreed Bluey - as long as Noone doesn't put the ball on his feet, we'll be OK...........<laugh>

As far as The Riviera is concerned, I think Gunnar and Heidi would regard it as sub-tropical at the moment as the brass monkeys are not looking too worried.
 
Early in the season Noone would go the bi-line but has swapped wings and now more often than not comes inside. I think Smith is a better crosser of the ball so he'd have my vote.
 
I don't really care who crosses it guys whether it be Noone, Conway or Smithy, but only stick it the air if Gunnar can get up there. Otherwise hard and low with Bells, Mason, Fraizer or even Gunnar running on to it.

Of course if HH is in there, there's only the one real option for him.
