The mess gets bigger, allegedly most of the stuff that came from Turkey didn't meet the safety regs. and is sitting unused in a warehouse.

Probably get slated for this, but I really don't like the use of the word hero when discussing the workers who've died.

Hero suggests that people are willingly sacrificing themselves for a cause they consider worthy, but the people that are dying didn't sign up to die, they signed up to help and to save lives. It just feels like glorifying their sacrifice makes it acceptable, as if it's fine because they work in a sector that deals with death regularly. It feels now that death is an acceptable risk to take in the face of the crisis, which perhaps has been born out of certain people treating this like a war. Soldiers sign up during war time knowing full well that there's a chance they won't come home, but if we apply the same level of risk to the healthcare sector, what are we saying? That it's an acceptable loss in the face of getting results?

Everybody, and I mean everybody, working through this nightmare deserves every single accolade they get. But to me, calling those that have passed away "heroes" doesn't sit right, because they didn't have to die. They were wonderful people who wanted to help the sick, the vulnerable and the weak, they didn't have to die and certainly didn't choose to die.

When the lockdown is released, I want to see Boris, or Hancock, or Raab, stand there and read off every single name that's died, show that these people aren't just statistics. Even if it takes 4000 hours and they have to **** their suit trousers.

Indeed they are.... and they deserve the bonuses etc they have been given..... unlike my local store where the owners have offered them nothing.. and yet every single day they turn up, are as pleasant and efficient as always while the greedy bastard who own it have seen turnover increase markedly, offering no promotions....

A hero is someone who puts others before himself or herself. A hero has good moral ethics, and is someone who does things for the sake of being good, and not just a means to an end, or a reward for good deeds, but it is someone who does good for the sake of doing good.

Personally I wouldn’t glorify the avoidable deaths of healthcare workers as a positive thing, but you do you.

What are you guys thought on the actions taken by other countries recording the virus?
    Such as Sweden for example
Things haven't really changed that much here, at least not compared to the UK. No more than 50 people in the same location, but stores are still open, same goes with most bars, etc, just gotta keep more distance (as I've understood it, haven't been out drinking for a while) It's more "Don't be stupid, take responsibility".

    More info on here.

I think some countries have done well and acted straight away, such as Ireland. Other countries, such as the USA, aren't doing so well and are putting politics and money ahead of people's health.

Sweden I take it has less of a population density than the UK? So I imagine it would be easier to implement social distancing measures.

Can I ask what Sweden's view of how the UK has handled this is?

    The numbers game.

According to google there are about 26.5 million workers in the UK of those about 1.5 million work for the NHS.

So if about 100 NHS workers have died out of a total of over 30,000 they aren't doing too bad.
