I see we have agreement, the number of deaths in care homes announced by the ONS is an estimate,

If the government had tested the elderly with coronavirus symptoms in care homes from day one they'd have known how many of those who died had the virus. The person signing the death certificate wouldn't have had to guess the cause of death.

Head of UK Armed Forces joins the Downing St briefing this evening. Wonder if the Army is to take over logistics from NHS?

"On 1 April 2018, a new commercially astute management function called Supply Chain Coordination Limited (SCCL) went ‘live’. A limited company, wholly owned by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care"

Well they think they are wholly owned https://www.supplychain.nhs.uk/about-us/

I stand corrected, though that link says 'SCCL is part of the NHS family', that it gives 'greater NHS clinical involvement in purchasing decisions' and 'a joined-up approach across the NHS' and is based at the offices of NHS England, so it still seems to me to be very much part of the NHS.

Disney are getting a good tonking online today, they've furloughed 100,000 staff, saving them £400m a month in wages, but have decided to go ahead with bonus payments to their executives of £1.2b.

    I have to disagree there.
The phrase ‘NHS family’ is used by lots of organisations that are very much not the NHS, including many private companies.
    Just brand messaging that’s all.
They are definitely not part of the NHS.

No doubt legal, and normal business, but it’s things like this that hopefully will lead to a new ‘normal’ at some point.
    It’s quite clearly appalling morally

It's exactly what happened with the bank bailouts over a decade ago now - tax payer funded and lower paid workers let go/streamlined roles, whilst the directors retained full pay and bonuses. So, I don't see any huge change.

Continued lockdown measures and supposed social disruption measures will stop anyone protesting about it though.

Could you not say that ultimately all these types of business, NHS, Enviroment agency, Army, Navy, Airforce, Ministry of Transport, Education are owned by the government? and if you get it the semantics of it all the voter and tax payer. State companies.

However they all have a chain of command and management system who run the show. I suppose the type of business under which they operate will depend on the usual things like limiting personal responsibility, minimizing tax and the like.
