The numbers of deaths aren’t hugely relevant (after a point)
The thing that is relevant is the ability to not have to rely on oversees factories for PPE.
Rigorous testing of the business continuity testing would have highlighted that as an issue. The answer to that issue might have been to keep a bigger stock, but then issue to the NHS from that stock and replenish as needed to avoid needing to throw any away, or the answer might have been to establish UK production of all key items, or it might have been something else.
The answer shouldn’t have been to look away and hope for the best.
Whatever your views asking about when the testing happened, how it was done and what the outcome was are all reasonable questions I think

    You can though
    And at relatively small cost
Particularly if it is a good way of mitigating the risk that you’ve identified yourself is your highest risk.

I am not quoting a rumour, I'm just saying what a German Doctor is doing, I may be wrong , he may be wrong.
Who debunked the rumour, if it is one?

Humberside Police has so far issued 21 fines to people who've breached the new COVID-19 restrictions. Officers have also arrested a further 7 people for incidents directly linked to the new Coronavirus laws.

France have just got four factories (in France) to retool to make face masks and they're aiming to produce 10m masks a week between them, by the end of this month. But it's a piss in the ocean based on what's required at the moment and they've still had to place an order for 2b masks from China.

There's obviously a good chance that things will change going forward and some provision will be made, but it's hardly a surprise that nobody thought to spend £5b on stocks of disposable and perishable face masks, on the off-chance that a bat bit a pangolin in a Chinese market.

This doesn't sit well with me. His well-meaning I completely understand and he clearly wants to repay for the help he was given to recover from the illness. However the NHS isn't a charity - it's a tax-payer funded service, it shouldn't need a century old man walking in his back garden to fund it properly. If the NHS needs money, then the government should be giving it to them, not letting a very old man raise funds, for which he's already paid a lifetime of taxes for. And donations certainly shouldn't be going through Virgin, as Branson sued the NHS not so long ago.

He's a grateful old man who was just trying to raise £1,000 to say thank you to the doctors and nurses who treated him, it just went viral and has raised a fortune, nobody is planning on switching the funding of the NHS to hundred year old men ffs.

The issue with this is that everything starts costing a vast amount more. Who will fund it?

It very much depends on whether or not locals are aware of these jobs,if not,it's bang out of order!! And you have to ask yourself whether or not they are being checked for covid 19? And if not,why not? I'm led to believe they'll also be bussed to/from work following social distancing guidelines.Did they offer the same deal to unemployed locals or other people who haven't got two halfpennies to rub together???

That's not what the article on the BBC website states.
It states he did it to fund the fight against covid 19.

It feels wrong but equally so does leaving food in the ground to rot. I read that around 30k UK unemployed registered an interest but only around 4k took it any further. I can see that social distancing in the fields isn't an issue but how they are accommodated is a bigger challenge.

So many companies are giving us nhs staff free or discounted stuff. Aldi now letting us to the front of the queue on producing our badge. Maybe it's just me but we're just doing our jobs. I would feel right cheeky being ushered to the front of the queue at a supermarket and this free stuff all the time is not really necessary. At least just give it to the nhs staff on the lower pay bands. I just know when this is all over it will go back to most people not giving a tiny rats arse about us and popping to ED when they are drunk or have the 'flu'.

See my comment in post 4175. Apparently they're being tested before leaving Romania. I've spent a lot of time working with produce firms in Lincolnshire and they all tell me locals just don't want to do that work.

It is actually a charity he's raising the money for, it's going to NHS Charities Together, rather than just being given to the NHS.

It's going to NHS Charities together, which is a charity providing support to NHS workers.
