The lack of ability to grasp the most obvious of sarcasm is something I find worrying. Or is it indicative of the actual level of ridiculousness that's coming from some fans that you could actually mistake that for a serious comment?

Maybe being overly friendly towards former players is symptomatic or indeed even the cause of a lack of a winning mentality at Arsenal, but I think it's quite sad that being cordial towards former team mates is seen as a bad thing. Yes, exchanging shirts at half time does seem to be taking it a bit too far but at the end of the day, showing friendliness towards former could be seen as a manifestation of the 'Olympic Spirit' which was so clearly seen in the summer whereby it's not just about winning at all costs, but it's about competing in the spirit of honesty, fair play and decency. I think sometimes/often football loses touch with these important (I feel) aspects which can be seen by the amount of diving, deliberate fouling, vitriol, racism and so on that goes on.

Oh, and for the record, I felt it was kinda obvious that Murray was being sarcastic.

I totally agree with you except for the part about a winning mentality. How often in the warm up before games do you see players from different teams hugging and talking on the pich. This is particularly true of players of the same nationality. It is something that has been going on for years

I honestly don't believe being friendly to opposition players, especially those who had been with the club for 8 years, has anything to do with winning mentality, but some people may.

I will always support arsenal , just getting fed up with the rollercoaster , want to see some consistency .

All this sideways/backwards passing makes me want to kill something.
I think yoonited were in 3rd gear most of yesterday , didnt matter tho because we were in neutral .

Indeed , you can summise from that ,that when i heard about the incident in question . i WAS driving home from work ..

Then i ceased driving and watched the game on my PC..

However an update on the incident in question .

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has let Andre Santos know that swapping shirts with Robin van Persie midway through Saturday’s defeat to Manchester United was unacceptable.

Santos endured a torrid time against United and also came under scrutiny for exchanging shirts with the Dutch international at half-time of a game in which Arsenal slumped to a 2-1 defeat.

Reports suggested Santos could be dropped from tomorrow’s Champions League tie at Schalke as a result but, while angry with the player, Wenger was keen to downplay the incident.

“I spoke about that but I don’t want to make too much of a big story of that,” the Arsenal boss said.

“I believe that was not the right thing to do at all, but that is not an explanation for our bad performance on Saturday.”
