Difficult one. I only think he should go if someone better is lined up. He should be remembered for stopping a dreadful run that we were on though, if he does go...
Hi Mex that could be put down to new manager syndrome when players are keen to impress and play for their place ,Ie when they are bothered , later on when respect is lost ,discipline has gone and effort and commitment levels drop, sound familiar? Beppe talks the talk but is not the man to take us on .
In his remarks after the game Sannino sounded like he was preparing the ground for a resignation. Like Zola he seems to have concluded he cannot do more with this group of players, who are --collectively-- not a convincing Championship team. He says "the DNA of the team " needs to change.Quite right--and from the top. The Pozzo model of bringing in an Italian coach and giving him a bunch of more or less talented players culled from their other teams does not work in the Championship , where the requirement is for team spirit, pride in club, hard work allied to talent /leadership. It nearly worked with Zola in year one because it was a surprise package and we had 3 or 4 really outstanding players who could deliver the Zola style. But once we lost those players , and Zola lost his way, it was never going to be easy to recover. Now it is time to start again, with manager and players properly suited to the English Championship and the ambition of a top 6 finish. No time for delay!
His appointment was a tad strange in the first place, but I suppose he has done the job he was hired to by avoiding the disaster of relegation that was looming all too quickly at the time. He does look out of his depth though, and very few of the players seem to be enjoying life under his tutelage, so I guess 'It's time...' As to a replacement, I can't see any of the current crop of available British managers fitting the bill - nor filling us with confidence. So is it either going to be a poach job from another club - unlikely due to the probable cost - or another unknown, be he Italian or whatever? Watching the A-League grand final this morning led me to thinking about one of the two managers involved in it. West Sydney Wanderers have played an impressive style of attacking football for the last two years, the players are fit, committed and well organised - and the bonus is that their manager has experience both as a player and manager in the Championship and the EPL, Tony Popovic the former Palace player. Could be worth a shot....
Sometimes you just have to wonder what is happening away from the public gaze. I have seen it said today that BS faced unrest from some of the players because he wanted to change the training methods from the fairly light regime of GFZ into something completely the opposite. Also certain players did not think he was justified in bringing them in on their day off Wednesday after the grim display the night before. Maybe the fact that two players did not even get on the bench yesterday would suggest a degree of truth in the unrest theory. I have also been told that after the game there was a lot of talk about quite a few players going shortly and that BS would be likely to go as well. The sources are normally reliable, but they could have misheard or misunderstood. Ever since the game finished yesterday the various forums have been full of 'news' about what is going on at the club. What we have seen since the takeover is carefully managed information from the club and I doubt that at this time the powers that be are about to bring their dirty washing out for all to see.
Nice to see back Norway - did you go to the End of Season bash tonight? Hoping to get some dirt later from my spy's who were there.
If Beppe Sannino is to leave can he take Alex Chamberlain? Scott Loach was a good keeper who lost his ability and for the few games Jonathan ond has played I think he is also suffering. Manuel Almunia has much experience and can not be pushed into bad habits so easily.
Well you do wonder about Alec's ability as a coach - are the club just being loyal to him for the great service he gave? Not that he's the big problem of course! Must feel a bit lonely with all the other coaches only speaking Italian - which might not help the morale if there is an issue within the squad.
What is BS's contract duration? I must say we would have been no worse IMO if GFZ, who I have a lot of respect for, had stayed and turned a corner. Of course we finished no better than we did under SD ..... says it all eh... But respect for the Pozzos for their investment in the long term for our little club Can they please have a careful rethink re the future...
I read somewhere BS had an 18 month contract - but that will not matter to the Pozzos. Would Malky be tempted back? He would have a totally different set up here and if the Pozzos were to show him some respect could he be tempted? Woiuld we want him? After all both he and Dyche (and Rodgers) have proved that they can take clubs up from here after leaving us
I would welcome back Malky, but i think his contractual issues with Cardiff remain and I suspect that Narge and West Ham may have him on their lists - but as he still lives very local, he may be more interested than we think!
You know I quite like the guy - he has passion and I agree he needs to make the players stronger which I think is what he has tried to do - unfortunately without much success. So I don't know if I want him to go or not. What I am sure of is that some of the players need to go and find a job where they can moan and groan to their hearts content and not listen to people who may be trying to improve things but at the same time be prepared to draw the over inflated wage - the European Elections are coming up in May and our own Politicians elections next year - sounds ideal for a lot of them.
I like the idea of Malky coming back and him giving OGS a bloody nose. Keeping Sannino in a role of assistant would be a good way to go to keep the Pozzo italian content. Whats clear is we need a shakeup and at risk of becoming a scratched record an on the pitch leader.
Maybe MM could bring his staff from Cardiff with him, and so we have some new faces as well why not some of his old players?
Yeah, I know a few that had the same view. Martin went but he said it's not the same with the players on their own table. Hope all is well in Noggie land mate.
