You're right, we've lost so many 'uncleansed'. Maybe we do all need to smear ourselves before we go? Partly protest, but partly an attempt to 'uncleanse'. NB in trying to find a suitable replacement word for uncleanse, I stumbled across a dictionary definition which was 'morally impure' . I didn't bother to change it.
Are 'we' not part of the cause though? An industry only thrives if its customers are willing to pay. Those that are complaining about modern football are usually paying hundreds for a season ticket and have a sky sports subscription, irony at its finest.
And so it goes on. Next thing you know coppers will be demanding a banner stating Hull City- you can't colour us in - be taken down as they are racist. Oh... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-41337127
Agree completely about the gentrification of football. Key themes for me are: * the rancid spectre of billionaire owners influencing short-termism in every aspect of the game, * the change of club culture to that of a brand image * the design and feel of stadia around that of a shopping mall * the financial exclusivity of season ticket/membership schemes (largely outside of Premier League and Championship) * the complete and utter irrelevance and ineptitude of FA officials * the complete and utter arrogance of Premier League officials Having said all of that, I'm strongly against the extremely dangerous and inconvenient making of "unnecessary" noise, apart from polite applause/groaning, in any seat close to me
Yes, noise is the last thing you expect, and want, when you go to a football match. Sadly that is indeed the way a lot of the new generations of fans do think.
Whats the average age of a fan in the north stand compared to the west stand? I'd wager its significantly lower. Its actually the previous generation that have been attracted to modern football later in life who are the sit down shut up types.
Who mentioned age? Maybe generation was the wrong choice of word, maybe new wave of fans or new breed of fans or something similar would have been more apt. Though I am sure most people will have known what I meant. As a pensioner I have been told to sit down by someone younger than my kids. I know of a poster on here who is turned 60 who had a blazing row with someone of about 30 who told him to stop shouting so loudly as his daughter couldn't hear her radio. And that was in the East Stand, the supposed hot bed before the evictions.
I completely agree in that case, generation just implied it was younger people but that's cleared it up.
Some of the younger fans I see in the North Stand spend more time looking at their phones than looking at the pitch
Anyone just watched real v b. Marvelous defending from betis and scored a great headerer in the last minute. Superb did you see the copper at the Leeds game telling the ref which end to take penalties!!! Ridiculous
I'm looking in the reports and it's not mentioned I just caught it on either lok north or calendar and the copper told the ref to take them at the end away from the Leeds fans.
We are surrounded in North Stand now by a lot of young lads, clearly attracted by our witty terrace chants. One lad behind us is particularly irritating, treating us to an incessant, far too loud and far too technical commentary. Mate described him as from the group brought up on Sky Sports.
Absolutely. One of our players should 'have headed across the goalie to work him'. I thought he should have put it in the ****ing net. Could be a long season.
You have my sympathy. It's gonna be a long season anyway but with experts that have never played football before behind you God help.
He is ****ing irritating And all the other youngsters don't watch the game anyway, they're too busy checking betting sites on their phones ...in hindsight maybe forcing kids to stop coming wasn't so foolish after all
