I don't get the prices being offered (and apparently asked), if a premier league or top end championship club want to sign a highly rated 21 year old surely 2m is peanuts isn't it? I think the Grigg deal cost us around the same potentially rising to double that. I think I'll retire from trying to guess how much players are worth.
If we don't just pay 2 mil and this kid gets away, we will really regret it I reckon. perfect for this league and Championship...Not sure he is Premier League ready tho'
All we can do here is match the terms and hope his experience here swings it. He'll play every game here when he'll sit on the bench elsewhere, so it depends what the lad wants. I will be very disappointed if we fail the first test of the recruitment system and don't have at least a couple of other options.
If he doesn’t sign it’s not exactly a failure for the recruitment system. Others can offer him a higher level of football than us, which is hard to compete with as higher level normally also means more money. Can’t blame the lad for wanting to play at a high level, we can’t offer that we can offer the potential to play at a higher level.
On the other hand if we’d offered 2 mil at the beginning he would probably be a Sunderland player now, a price we all thought was peanuts anyway.
Thing is none of know what’s really happening behind closed doors, yeah it’s great when posters get little bits and bobs and we all get excited but really the only people that know what’s going on are the ones behind the closed doors. Unlikely. The transfer process doesn't just take a few hours - even if we had a bid accepted, his agent would have been playing the usual games and phoning all sorts of Championship clubs to start a bidding war. If he signs, it will be because he wants to play for us. If he doesn't, it's because he doesn't - nowt to do with the supposed bid that some papers are reporting we have made
I don’t understand why he can be offered more money if you are a multi billionaire in the prem or a multi billionaire in league one you are still a multi billionaire just buy a team to get us out of this s hit league.
