Trouble is whenever you mention how bloody awful Monk is on here you get deluged with "Swansea legend!" He's been a great servant for us no doubt, but just isn't up to this level and it's about time the blinkers came off some of our fans. As you say, ivor there's no room for sentiment now.

Was monk apart of our promotion winning season? I can't for the life of me remember who partnered Ash at the back! I know he played in the playoff final because his toe kept us in it, but can't remember throughout the season.

    Loving the sarcasm, swans-m. <applause>

Think we were in a lower division when Monk was doing well for us. Not sure. (See I can do it as well).

Monk was a big part of our promotion push but is one of the few that clearly isn't up to this level. I'm basing that on his appearances since then. He has been very poor apart from against Stoke as I recall.

If you think we should pick a player because of past loyalty then thank god Laudrup's in charge.

Haha I genuinely tried my best to make it sincere aswell, there was no sarcasm intended. Although it always difficult to get your tone across on a forum. But I really can't remember, I thought he was injured for the majority of that year? Or have I got my seasons mixed up?

Don't think so. He did well in our final year in the CCC, but just can't step it up. His position is so crucial to get right too. Still think he's eyeing a coaching role with thus and he'd be good to keep around.

Yes he's definitely a good leader. I remember when we first signed ash, helpless when monk was out injured, a totally different player when monk was there organising the defence and leading from the back. I think he would be a great coach in the defensive department.
