I agree that the term "desperation" may have been to sensationalise my post <ok>

But it certainly is a gamble.

as for the £35m for Carroll, yeah it was over the odds but you pay a premium for english players and you pay a premium on strikers. Hernandez for instance cost you £10m (Now I admit you got a frigging steal there... immense bit of business) BUT it was above the average fee for a player from the Mexican league because he was a striker.

Now Carroll was a target for the end of the season but once Torres had handed in his transfer request we had to act quickly to get a striker (24 hours due to the window shutting - yet another premium).

Of course we paid over the odds for him but we had to, sometimes you just have to pay over the odds.

Was £30 odd million over the odds for Rooney when you brought him?

Hell yes but it worked out ok - did I call him a flash in the pan and that Neil Mellor had a bright future? Yes I did and I was wrong - But I felt bloody smug a few weeks later when Neil Mellor scored a scorcher against Arsenal BUT I was wrong... Man Utd's scouting network proved me wrong and until Andy Carroll has a proper chance to make an impact then you cannot judge him

he may well do turn out to be a good signing, and if you factor in that Cheslea actually paid over the odds for Torres it balances out the Carroll transfer, in other words you're on a winner all ready.

I just hope that United do not get stung on the much needed, much discussed CM, that's when we will not have such shrewd business, we've spent circa £50m so far on 3 players, I can see it being £40m+ on one for that role, unless Fergie's scouting team, of which you speak, unearth some wonderkid who kicked a coconut around between the straw huts of his caribean island , which is only visible on Google Earth!

Chicharito was only £6 million, looks like even more of a steal now doesn't it? ;)

How can anybody that is serious about football slate Sammy Lee?

He has been an excellent addition to the Liverpool staff for donkey's years and should be praised for his commitment and loyalty. Surely if you look beyond the 'boring' united vs Liverpool debate you would recognise someone that has been passionate about football.

Lets be honest, someone who has been committed to the good of football should deserve high praise. Yeah, i understand you guys don't like him but rivalry aside surely even the stupidest person can see how he deserves a good send off.

You could say the same thing about SAF. He's been at least as passionate and committed as Lee, and still gets all the usual insults and piss takes from rival fans. It's just banter at the end of the day. Even KPR admits that the chants directed at him are only comedy wind ups.

It'll be interesting to see where he ends up next, and who it was who initiated the departure. Although I get the feeling we'll get the old "mutual consent" line from the club and the rumours will fly...

dude I didn't slag him off just said he made laugh when I was kid, when we sang that he was fat & round and bounced on the ground.... kids eh?

If he was pushed out then I do feel for him, like I did with old Butch from Chelsea.

    Couldn't agree more.

I understand the banter between clubs and you probably recognise i get involved whenever possible. But i for one recognise the great achievement of SAF over the past years. I still think he is a complete ****, but would never ever knock his passion and achievement in the game.

Word is that he might be off to West Ham to give Sam a hand. However, this is just speculation at present. Wherever he goes i wish him all the best.

Man United have paid £19 million for the new Massimo Taibi. They could have got Almunia for 10 times less.58 goals conceded. Not very impressive,He will probably concede more with Glass-back in front of him.

    Very poor wum attempt.

Your judging a player without him playing in the premiership yet then you delete posts about Henderson being ****..... an opinion based on seeing him play in the Premiership.
