No criticism or disrespect to Ameobi but the lack of comment indicates a generally underwhelmed reaction.

Hope he shows us how wrong we are.
 
It would seem we have beaten Wolves to his signature, he's not a L1 journeyman. A couple of transfer fears sort of put to rest.
It's a season long move and he has a point to prove (those are the positives for me). Lots of the other comments about him suggest he could be another to add to the list of failed highly talented inconsistent players that we really don't seem to be able to get the best from.

In fairness Blue I think everyone is a tad underwhelmed full stop. It's not really a reflection on Ameobi in particular.
 
True Stevo. I read somewhere that we committed to giving him first team action as long as he is fit and Wolves wouldn't give that guarantee. Shows he's keen to play but just hope it doesn't come home to bite us.

The overall negative attitude is just so frustrating at a time of year when we should be getting excited over the new season.

At 6 ft 4 1/2 inches he'll be the tallest winger I've ever seen. He'll certainly stand out in a crowd. Wonder if he's any good in the air?

JET was a shortie at 6 ft 1 inch!!!!
 
From what I've seen he is very fast, good feet but his distribution/crosses can be poor.

Time for the coaching staff to earn their corn.

Agree we need to give the lad a decent chance to show what he's got over a period and not just game 1.

Let's hope Slade will as well and not play him at right back.
 
Decent signing; the lad is very talented and I think he got a bit of a raw deal from the Geordie faithful who seem to be in permanent 'glass totally empty' mode! Think he will do well for Cardiff.
 
He's as good as we are likely to get but must wonder whether we are covering his full salary which on a new contract with Newcastle must be substantial. I'm doubtful whether the side needs strengthening in his position but he must be given a fair chance. However, with Slade at the helm he probably won't be given long to prove himself. A couple of indifferent games will probably see him marginalised as some others before him.
 
His height will give us something a bit different and he gives us strength in the wider positions.

However, we need to thin out the number of players we have in those positions. If we have Sammy, Pilkington and Noone in the wide roles where does that leave the ruck of other players (Harris, Mason, etc) who also fill those roles. We need to skinny things down and focus on quality not quantity. Hopefully he proves to be a step up from what we already have or there is no point.

If we get to 2 players for every position, a third keeper, a few utility players like Connolly, Mason and Rafael and a few youngsters gives us a squad of 26 ish senior pros and 3-4 tyros.

Nothing against Sammy and I hope he has a great season, but Slade needs to sort the balance of the squad and specifically the centre of the park!!!!!
