Apparently Samba has been holed up in a Moscow airport sending out requests for "football asylum" all over the world and offering all Harry's secrets in return. We get out £12m back and they get Harry's secrets. Boy, are they going to be disappointed!
Does he deserve the vitriol? Sure he was hugely disappointing but was it because of lack of effort or a poor attitude?
Harry dud say we would get the transfer fee back for him, but I'm shocked we actually did! And to the same club.
All stinks to me. We sign an unfit player in the russian close season, he plays a few games and we pay im £2m + and then he is back to the same side at the earliest opportunity. Few quid all round for agents , player and dare i say it Harrys dog.....
Or was it because he has been shown to be mercenary? Whatever. Either of your your first two justify what you call 'vitriol' while others might say 'fair comment'. Some may be feeling guilty because they swallowed up all the hype about him in the first place but that does not lessen their right to feel cheated by what they saw of his performances.
This all looks like a good piece of business to me. But I would not be surprised if there had been an understanding (at the very least), at the time Samba was acquired from Anzhi, that they had first refusal on taking him back in such circumstances.
Just glad we got most of our investment back - 10 games, how much per game? We all had such high hopes that he would prove to be our solid centre back saviour and snatch a few goals too. In reality this guy would have got the job done at a fraction of the cost. please log in to view this image
A good decision imo. Getting 12 million back on the 12.5 we paid is a massive achievement for the club and one we couldnt turn down. The noises from TF was that he wanted us to, and I quote "build a team around Samba". I would have liked to get him fit in pre-season and see what he could do for us then as he wasnt fit enough last season. But 12 million for him is too good to turn down. I wouldnt be surprised if this was in the original deal though, that he could go back if we went down. So all we ended up paying was a 500k loan fee.
Plus 23 weeks @ £100K = £2.8 million for 10 games = £280K per game, for a job that likely Danny ****tu could have done for us.
Well, wages aside all we paid was 500k. I dont believe his wage was anywhere near 100k though. Fernandes said our highest earner was on 65k. Of course he could have told a lie there to get the media off our back but Samba himself said he took a pay cut to come here and he was on 100k at Anzhi.
It does make you wonder why Anzhi sold him in the first place if they then suddenly wanted to buy him back in February and go him now, very strange.
Russian season started this weekend Currently live streamed on Bet365 Anzhi Makhachkala v Lokomotiv Moscow (0-0) Looks like Samba is on the bench - so out of shape when he came to us and still out of shape when he returned to them? Samba believes in Anzhi success http://sg.news.yahoo.com/samba-believes-anzhi-success-004713989.html Congolese defender Christopher Samba, who has returned to Russian Premier League side Anzhi Makhachkala after six months in England, has said he is confident his side can prosper when the new season gets underway next weekend. "The decision to return to Anzhi wasn't hard for me to take at all," Samba was quoted as saying by the club's press service. "Playing for Anzhi was one of the best periods in my career along with my experience with Blackburn Rovers." "I believe that in the new season we are capable of performing even better than we did last year. "Anzhi's current line-up is stronger than the club had last season. Besides, we are coached by one of the world's best managers." The 29-year-old international full back rejoined Anzhi by signing a four-year deal with the club from the capital of Russian republic of Dagestan after playing with Queens Park Rangers, who were relegated from the English Premier League last season. Local media reports said that Anzhi had paid QPR 11.6 million euros for Samba, who joined the club from Makhachkala for the first time in February 2012. The former Congo international team skipper added that he was happy to return to Anzhi. "In January I had to leave Anzhi because of my family problems," he said. "And I was really upset to leave the team. This time I brought my family with me to Russia to avoid similar problems in the future. Anzhi finished third in the Russian league last season and will play in the Europa League. During the summer break Anzhi also strengthened their line-up by signing Russian international skipper Igor Denisov from Zenit St Petersburg and Russian international forward Alexander Kokorin from Dynamo Moscow.
