Will have to double check but it's not recent. He's always been a brilliant creator however it doesnt fit the narrative that he's greedy so it doesn't get mentioned often ...
Some good points made here. We've been blessed with some really great goalscorers over recent years. Its a good debate. Ill leave yas all to it
Salah and Mane aren't traditional wingers though. They are our primary goal scorers so you should expect selfishness. If they aren't selfish, then you're expecting Bobby to score goals which he simply cant. Has he been wasteful? Yes. Can he pass instead of shooting? Yes. Now you can ask the same question to literally every attacker in the world and the answer would be the same. In fact, Bobby has had far more shots than Salah this season so you can argue he is actually greedier. But again, it's all about the narrative - Bobby is selfless, Salah is selfish. Salah's conversion rate is up there with the best strikers such as Kane, Aguero, Messi etc. So are we expecting to be even better than Messi? Re. Torres, Fowler and Suarez - they were 'sexy' players. Torres and Fowler in terms of the types of goals they score. Suarez in terms of producing moments of magic. Salah doesn't have that aesthetic around his play - he's just purely effective.
He was brilliant and I think his mins/goal had worsened towards the end of his LFC career because he was playing the odd 1-2 games here and there, and its hard for anyone to stay sharp when you're in and out of the team. But he was a remarkable footballer - shame injuries robbed him.
No one denies he gets assists. It's the amount of times the better option is a pass but he opts to shoot. He's great but he could be even better. Only reason I questioned you putting assists is because you normal stick with chances created (which could be for himself)
That is true but it's like saying Salah could have scored more goals if he didn't miss big chances. If a player had a 90% conversion rate, they'd be scoring 90 goals a season. Same with assists. It's unrealistic. Also, how many times has he scored instead of opting to pass? At the end of the day, Salah's numbers for both goals and assists are up there with the very best in the world - we're talking Messi levels. Whilst I understand the argument that he could have squared it etc etc, you have to remember that every single attacker does the exact same thing. It's easier to pinpoint Salah doing it because we watch him every week. Funny thing is, Bobby and Mane are actually just as selfish if not more.
What I mean is that during the 90 minute mane can look a better player because as you say he’ll stand players up go past them. Use his strengths to hold the ball up, win the ball in the air, turn players etc. But then Salah pops up with 2 goals from nothing and wins the game. It’s not a dig at either of them, it’s more that you watch Salah and at times he doesn’t maybe offer as much in a game or looks off it/uninterested, but he has the ability to put that one chance away and win the game. so he may not look as effective or styling as some of the previous players mentioned but in terms of output he’s the best.
Especislly when you consider last season or two he rarely scored albeit rarely played as well. wasn’t Sturridge quickest to 50 goals for us? On form he was absolute quality and had brilliant partnership with suarez and sterling.
It's an impossibility to rank our greatest forwards, we really have been blessed with some absolutely phenomenal talent, even when the team hasn't been great we've had a superstar upfront. Suarez was a joy to watch, one of the greatest all round forwards ive ever seen. Fowler had God like finishing ability, plus the local connection. Torres and stevie where a phenomenal partnership. Salah an absolute machine, similar to Ronaldo its all about the numbers. When talking about superstars in the team for the past 20 years maybe we've only had 1 or 2 at a time, the forwards always fell into this bracket along with Gerrard Salah is in a team chock full of players that everyone loves. From Allison through to Bobby everyone's got a different favourite player.
I'm satisfied that Salah don't get as much love as past scorers because he's in a team full of players we all love on different levels. Cheers lads.. Close thread @Zanjinho
love is not finite. there should be equal love in your heart for all your children or are you one of these lads who says, well yeah i do have a favourite
