RE the first point, that's exactly what we should be doing! Buy players that are better than we already have, that way we improve the 1st 11 and also the squad depth
Exactly - it will be hard because there will be sentiment attached to the players that will be replaced e.g. Agger and Sakho, Mignolet and Reina etc.
Agreed, but you don't normally change both parts of a pairing, you change one at a time. Towards the end of last seaosn, there was a lot of discussion around who we should buy and sell (obviously) and there was particular interest in Agger, Skrtel and Reina. Many said it would be too risky to change all three at once and it would be better to change one at a time. We now find (in a four at the back system) that our current strongest line-up would see Migs, Toure and Sakho in there. That's why I said its strange However, if it works then so be it
Well for a couple of games we had Agger & Toure, then Toure & Skrtel, then Skrtel & Sakho so it's not been 2 complete newbies in a central pairing but see where you're coming from. I think it would have been a risk to sell all 3 and buy 3 replacements, but less of a risk to do it the way we have as if Toure/Sakho hadn't hit the ground running then we could have taken them out the firing line as we still had options from last year.
I also think we've gone about it in the right way. If you're going to change all three that it makes sense to change the keeper first. That position / player can keep the guys in front of him in check next season whilst the newbies settle
I want to call him "mummy" is that okay? Mummy certainly seems to be brave in the tackle although I do fear Mum will give away a few penalties this year... he seems to dance on the line a lot. Knowing what you can and can't get away with is critical. We can't have mum throwing young men around all the time! Just like I once honoured Lucas by changing my name to "Lucas Milk"... I think I may honour sakho in the future and call myself "mummy milk" thoughts?
I have rather ruthlessly called for him to replace agger. I think we can see that this guy can only get better but will make a mistake soon that gives a pen away the way he goes down. Overall... for me toure and sahko are by far a better CB set that what we had. Genuinely nothing against agger but the guy makes a lot of basic errors. Illori is one thats ok could go either way I am on record saying you take that moeny and aspas money and you have eriksen which is just a huge mistake. however..... illori? was skertl going, no bod? who knows.. did we get sahko late on deadline day... was it a 50/50... who knows again. All we can say is we'll live to regret eriksin being at spurs but will not regret buying shako for one minute. LFC need the next big thing. 2 years ago it was javi martinez. I said eriksen this time. beofre that it was mata... nobody bought these guys while we were saying they were great. sigh..... there's quite a few guys out there that we can get next but midfield is the big area to improve until suarez does go.
Solid performances, but stats don't show the times he's out of position having tried to get a foot in early. Don't get me wrong, he's done well, but suggestions that he could be world class are far too premature.
Suggesting he is World class is premature, but saying he could become World class isn't. A lot of players have the potential to do it, but not many continue to improve and have the mentality to go and do it.
We might as well say that any player who is young could be world class then. Alot might have the ability to be good players, but not world class. He's shown a few solid performances but alot of jittery moments and rashness in decision making. Good player. Lots to work on. Just because he's young and 'could' improve doesn't mean he has the ability to become world class. Just think we do this alot at our club; big up anyone young in the first team who's playing ok. Sterling (I've always preferred Ibe) was a prime example. Some good performances but massively over hyped. We'll see how Sakho develops.
