As amusing as it is to suggest he did, Forecast didn't cost £25m. We "sold" the clauses in Bale's contract for a few million plus Forecast so the club could continue to exist. If we hadn't taken Forecast we'd still have sold the clauses and would probably have got £250k more in cash or something.
Forren was just out of condition both mentally and physically. I think he was just homesick and couldn't snap out of it. Looked lonely all the time. Delgado was an alright player. He proved that enough times for Equador. Just couldn't settle in. Probably homesick again. Lee Molyneux is doing well very in League Two. Found his level. Jelle Van Damme absolutely loathed it here. Doing well back in Europe when I last looked. No need for comment on the rest.
Yeah sorry. I just remember thinking that he was going to be a good signing and then just face palming myself every time he played.
Rather we'd had the 250K. On the BBC Sports website earlier today, a commentator said about Saints selling their Bale rights to stay afloat, and citing Levy as one hard deal maker. That is almost certainly true, but I would have loved to have seen how he'd have faired against Cortese. That could have got really ugly.
The other thing with this sell on clause, had it still been in place the deal may not have gone anywhere anyway. Madrid wouldn't have paid much more and Levy wouldn't have wanted to take a smaller cut so I would think such a large sell on clause would have been a deal breaker. Its all irrelevant though so doesn't matter.
So would I, but it's a long way away from £25m. I agree on the Levy vs Cortese thing to some extent but Levy held all the cards there and in the same situation there really wouldn't be anything Cortese could do.
We got a few mil for Bale's sell on clause, Forcast was just to "sweeten" the deal. Let's not forget GB was also just a prospect at this point; a good left back who could take free kicks.
According to David McGoldrick, he was brilliant even back then: http://www.itfc.co.uk/news/article/didz-on-bale-1030574.aspx You may have to click on the blue button to enter Ipswich Town's website.
Jermaine Wright. Pleasantly surprised Fantastic Mr Fox has been left out of this, well done everybody.
Bit harsh on Mickey Evans, as I recall he scored a few crucial goals in the April of that season Souness bought him to help keep us up. I grant you no good long term but he did a job for us at the time.
I remember liking Evans, like you said he scored some crucial goals and according to Wiki he was premiership player of the month for April. Plus we made a profit on him so not too bad really.
