I'm going to assume a Windows PC or Android. If it's a Mac or iPhone you're on your own. You paid enough for the thing.
You need to clear your search history periodically [like maybe set it to automatically clear every time you close down your browser] or install an add-on [extremely easy indeed with the Firefox browser. If you don't have, my advice is to get it] which almost totally eliminates your presence on the Net. Ghostery is my recommendation [moving like a ghost, yeah.?] Also, while you're at it, install a good ad-blocker, for the icing on the cake [Adblocker Plus is ideal].
Download the latest FREE [never ever pay for this stuff] version of CCleaner, install and run it.. First time it might take a while. Do it once a week or month and it won't take above a minute.
OK, that was preventative.
For your situation download and install FREE Malwarebytes. [remember, never ever pay] Update the definitions on it and run it. It will take ages if you allow it to run through your whole system. If it was me seeing your system I could make it a lot less time, but I'm not. So let it run. If you see a place where it says enable scanning of rootkits, enable it. It will almost certainly identify malware. Uninstall it, if you wish afterwards, as you'll probably not need it again if you take the preventative measures advised above.
A word or two on taking my advice. I'm often asked about problems with computers, PCs, Linux and Macs [and nowadays Android and iPhone Smartphones as they are computers anyway]. I used to get cheesed off when I found that the person continued to have the problem because they didn't act on my advice. Nowadays, I don't give a toss. Apparently we as a country don't listen to experts [see what I did there.?], so good luck with your malware problem.
