MP- No injury problems. Confirmed VVD training with squad and it's up to the player to prove he is ready to play as he has been out a long time. Didn't sound like he would be involved yet but no one asked the question.
Last season he needed upgrading, he needs upgrading this season. The arguments for keeping him as a starter are so thin.
I think you're describing our attitide to (and aptitude for) sex there ... I hate mediocre football please log in to view this image Given there's no end to this dicussion I'd just like to say I want you to be right so hopefully you will be, and soon
Not saying Davis couldn't be upgraded on, which he will be as you said he is coming up to 33. But for the attributes he brings to the team, no one else in the current squad does that imo.

Haha, mediocre sex? It's the only kind I offer. I'm also always right, so don't worry about your hopes! And you're looking at a different player to the one I see. Football is great like that. If you think we need 3 industrious midfielders that lack creativity. Then that's cool. I would prefer something different. It's not exactly the most difficult skillset - as I've said, I see no reason JWP or Hojbjerg with a regular run in the team can't do a better job than Davis.
Agreed, his industry and ability to stay calm under pressure are vital for us. He is one of the first names on the team sheet for me. It's the attacking midfielders that need to look at themselves, not Davis
My problem is, we have Romeu & now Lemina for the industrious side of the game. Davis doesn't move the ball quickly, or forward as much as we need him to.
I'm somewhere in the middle with this, but yes your point here is a compelling one. It's clear Davis offers a fair amount all round, which is the basis to his popularity amongst managers and players. I'm just not convinced he offers a specific thing at a very high level, which is where the frustrations come in.
Davis is fine as a centre mid, if you are playing with more attacking mids aswell. With the players we have I would say that we would best be served by playing 2 DMs and a more advanced attacking mid, and Davis doesn't fit in. Doesn't mean I dislike him as a player, he is good at what he does, but he just doesn't fit in my view
Only thing that I would add to this is that, at least in my opinion, you can go back further than last season. Alas, I expected to see his name on the teamsheet against West Ham, and I expect to see it again there on Saturday. Given Romeu and Lemina would be in the team too (something I am very happy with, btw), and we've hardly scored a goal for months, forgive me if I don't jump out of my chair in excitement at the thought.
As Liam says, it's a bold move for a new manager to drop the captain, and mainstay of the team for the past few years, pretty much on day one. Similarly, he might not want to put faith in someone like Boufal so early on in his reign. I have faith that over the course of the season, MP will gradually phase Davis out. I'm just going to have to sit by and suck it up in the meantime.
I agree, but I was already getting enough **** for what I'd already said. He's been a liability in the final 3rd for a long time, I remember back when we signed Gaston hoping that it'd be the end of Davis as our 'attack minded' midfielder. No doubt he'll start again against Watford, and if we struggle to score it'll be everyone but Davis' fault.
