Comment a few weeks back got me thinking; how many of 'The 92' have Saints played? The 92 is a challenge that a lot of football fans try and undertake, to visit as many of The 92 away grounds as possible. As a club, have we completed the set? When did we last play against some of them? For the purposes of this, I am only stating the last time we visited them away from home.

Did a bit of research over xmas, if anyone is interested!

Let's start with some of those 'rogue' clubs we have never played a competitive game of football against:
Bromley (L2)
Salford (L2)
Fleetwood (L2)
Crawley (L2)
Harrogate (L2)
AFC Wimbledon (L1) (dependant on if you view them as a new club or not, I suppose!)
Burton (L1)

There are those who we have played against, but never played them away from home:
Cheltenham (L2) - 07/11/2010 3-0(W), FA Cup

Teams we haven't played away against since our back-to-back promotion days, but have played them at home in the cup since:
Walsall (L2) - 01/03/2011 0-1(L), League 1
Blackpool (L1) 31/03/2012 0-3(L), Championship

Teams we haven't played at all since our back-to-back promotion days:
Swindon (L2) - 30/08/2011 3-1(W), League Cup
Notts County (L2) - 30/09/2010 3-1(W), League One
Colchester (L2) - 05/03/2011 2-0(W), League One
Oldham (L2) - 11/01/2011 6-1(W), League One
Tranmere (L2) - 21/01/2011 0-2(L), League One
Bristol Rovers (L2) - 28/08/2010 4-1(W), League One
Stockport (L1) - 29/08/2009 1-1(D), League One
Peterborough (L1) - 14/04/2012 3-1(W), Championship
Wycombe (L1) - 23/02/2010 0-0(D), League One
Exeter (L1) - 01/02/2011 2-1(W), League One
Leyton Orient (L1) - 09/04/2011 2-0(W), League One
Doncaster (L1) - 03/12/2011 0-1(L), Championship

Teams we haven't visited this millennium but have played them at home in the cup:
Grimsby (L2) - 07/01/1978, 0-0(D), FA Cup
Shrewsbury (L2) - 06/09/1993 0-2(L), League Cup
Lincoln (L2) - 12/11/1996 3-1(W), League Cup

Teams we haven't visited this millennium:
Chesterfield (L2) - 24/08/1959, 2-3(L), Division 3
Barnet (L2) - 10/11/1954, 4-1(W), FA Cup
Accrington Stanley (L2) - 31/09/1959, 2-2(D), Division 3
Barrow (L2) - 30/01/1967, 2-2(D), FA Cup
Bradford (L1) - 23/09/2000, 1-0 (W), Premier League
Port Vale (L1) - 18/01/1994 0-1(L), FA Cup
Wrexham (Champ) - 30/01/1990 3-0(W), League Cup
Oxford (Champ) - 26/11/1996 1-1(D), League Cup

Other teams we've drawn against:
Cambridge (L2) - 23/08/2011 3-0(W), League Cup
MK Dons (L2) - 23/09/2016 6-0(W), League Cup
Crewe (L2) - 11/03/2006 1-1(D), Championship
Gillingham (L2) - 08/08/2023 1-3(L), League Cup
Newport (L2) - 25/08/2021 8-0(W), League Cup
Bolton (L1) 19/04/2005 0-1(L), League Cup
Stevenage (L1) 28/08/2012 4-1(W), League Cup
Luton (L1) 07/04/2007, 2-0(W), Championship
Reading (L1) 06/04/2013 2-0 (W), Premier League
Mansfield (L1) 20/09/2005 0-1(L), League Cup
Wigan (L1) 18/03/2018 2-0(W), FA Cup
Barnsley (L1) 27/08/2013 5-1(W), League Cup
Northampton (L1) 12/08/2025 1-0(W), League Cup

And, of course, the usual run of the mill opponents we're all used to facing over the past 5 years:
Cardiff
Huddersfield
Rotherham
Plymouth
Coventry
Ipswich
Middlesbrough
Watford
Hull
Preston
Millwall
Bristol City
Stoke
Derby
QPR
Leicester
Sheffield United
Swansea
Birmingham
West Brom
Charlton
Blackburn
Portsmouth
Norwich
Sheffield Weds
Arsenal
Man City
Aston Villa
Liverpool
Chelsea
Man Utd
Sunderland
Everton
Brentford
Crystal Palace
Fulham
Tottenham
Newcastle
Brighton
Bournemouth
Leeds
Nottingham Forest
West Ham
Burnley
Wolves

I guess, for me , looking at this list, its fascinating that there's still 8 teams that we've never played against, and a further 8 teams we haven't even played this millenium.

You then have teams like Stevenage, who we've only ever played once.

I think, between those 16, and the teams we haven't played since the B2B promotion days, they are the ones I always look out for in cup draws; teams you don't play very often, or even at all. I find it fascinating, rather than playing the same old dross we face regularly.

We've also had some 'rogue' cup ties over the years; trips to the likes of Crewe, Cambridge, Newport, Mansfield are going to be pretty rare for a club like us - anyone on here did any of those hard to get to grounds? Grimsby at home has stuck with me as a real highlight as well, for that reason of it being such a rare occasion we face each other.

Or indeed, did anyone get to Accrington Stanley back in 1959? <laugh>

Or on a personal level; how many of 'The 92' have you done supporting Saints over the years? I'm only on about 20 so far.

Fantastic fred. Absolutely love it.

One minor correction though in that Oxford is in the 'teams not visited this millennium' section. I'd probably count AFC Wimbledon as same club too.

Great effort putting this together though <applause>

I love seeing matches against lower league teams that are unfamiliar. I always hope for a home tie in 3rd round of FA cup agaubst a team that is new to me.

Maybe we could have a thread to feature teams we have played but who are no longer in the football league ?

I've seen Saints play away against 42 different teams, one is now in the National League (Yeovil) and another in the National League South (Dagenham & Redbridge). None were Accrington Stanley in 1959. The bulk of those were in the League 1 and Championship days after Markus Liebherr bought the club. New owner, fresh hopes and all that. Really enjoyed those away days.
I have also been to Stamford Bridge for the 1976 FA cup semi-final against CP but never against Chelsea and the old Wembley for the final. I haven't been to any aways since we got into the Prem in 2012.

It's pretty unlikely I will ever do any more aways, I'm struggling to even bother going to St Mary's at the moment.

I think it is a great achievement to cover all 92 grounds especially with clubs moving to new stadiums or new teams coming up from the conference.

My mate who is a Gillingham supporter has done 91 current grounds having done Everton a couple of weeks ago.

He just has Barrow to go which he will do at the end of February and we are going out to celebrate.

They were not all by watching his team though. St Mary's was an England women's international.

Thats very impressive, fair play to your mate.

To be honest, unless you're a team like Luton, Coventry or Pompey, who have spent time in all 4 divisions, it's impossible to do it watching your own team, I think. And even in their cases, its incredibly unlikely.

I've made it a life ambition to try and do all 92, particularly once im free of kids in the future, but I've long accepted it won't be always to watch Saints.

Off the top of my head, the likes of Hartlepool, Scunthorpe, Southend, Torquay, Yeovil and Dag&Red we've played in my supporting time, who are now non-league.

Got me thinking.

I guess the rare grounds that i suspect many have not visited are Eastville, Goldstone Ground and Elm Park.

I've seen 24 different teams away and been to 28 different grounds. I stopped going to away matches after I got married in the early 90s apart from Wembley.

Rarely get time for away games as i often work weekends. I have been to more grounds around Lancashire as my sister lives up there. Not all of them are nice. Blackburn is horrible. Villa Park has always impressed me.

I have been to Tynecastle and Cherbourg, Troyes, Auxerre and Marsielle in France.

Two years ago i watched some cricket in Manila which must be pretty niche!

Been to 41 grounds in England, 16 supporting Saints, 26 of the current 92. Like to get a game or two in wherever I visit. Seen football in 27 different countries.

Do a trip to a random English city every Easter now for a few games. Sheffield last year and Blackpool this. Pre 2010-16 I went to multiple Saints games a year. From 16-18 lived in Manchester so got to loads of Saints matches, slim pickings since but will improve as this is my last year playing football myself. ST holder for my home club and do a few away a year. Not a bad record for someone who lived in England for only two years I guess.

I don't think I'll bother trying to complete the 92. The most I can probably get to with Saints over the next decade is 55-60 and I just can't be arsed with taking in that many games which don't involve Saints.

If I ever hit the 70-75 mark just through Saints then that would probably change but that seems unlikely. End of this season I'll hopefully be on 49-50 with a maximum of only 2 new grounds next season.

Could do with another relegation really :bandit:

I'm a fair-weather supporter and only go to home games. I made one game at The Dell in my youth when I didn't even really like football (0-0 v Tranmere Rovers) and hundreds at St.Marys.
But the only away games I've ever done are a pre-season friendly at Bournemouth back in the days that they were financially struggling and we used to send round the collection buckets, play them in pre-season and loan them our youth players. I also 'went to' (I was at Uni there) Plymouth for the 1-3 win that all but sealed our promotion back to the Championship. And have seen Saints at Wembley...3 times. The JPT, League Cup Final, and Play-Off Final.
I have a lot of respect for all you hardcore supporters who spend so much time and money following us all around the country. Real dedication that.

I think SR wil be able to help you out there :)

Certainly think a relegation is more likely than a promotion under their ownership.

If we can be this bad when at a huge financial advantage over the majority think how much worse it'll get when the parachute payments dry up.
