Appreciate watching Southampton over the years may have clouded your views Ian, but defence is still important

Got home, had a fry up (without needing to do anything to earn it....), did a bit of work, watched a bit of tv, figured I come and catch up on the conversation...

We have just won two games in a row, scored 5 goals, our interim manager has just got 1/3 of this seasons points in those two games with the SAME players, playing roughly the SAME formation as the recently fired manager - that is surely a conversation topic to be going on with

By the low standard I, and I presume many others hold you by, today is a new low for you, Ian.

I prefer Baz, if that is the only choice, I wish he would catch the ball and stop playing pat a cake in the area! Needed to be sharper for their goal, but it was a good strike.

My stance on the debate earlier in the season was Bazunu as he has the potential to be a better keeper than McCarthy as McCarthy won't get better. Bazunu may never reach it but at least he has a chance to get better.

He does make things harder for himself though as whilst he did make a good save in the first half - he wouldn't have had to if he had caught the ball instead of punching it

I honestly don't think I've seen a worse GK than Bazunu play for Saints.

I said he could be better than McCarthy - I never said become a great keeper.

I do think he's not had the best of starts with us but looks better than he did in previous seasons - we need to cut out the stupid short goal kicks though as that just invites unnecessary pressure when Wood decides the only player he can pass to is Stephens a few yards to his side.

I also really wish he'd claim the ball instead of punching it out.

How about Dave MacLaren? We knocked 9 past him and then went and bought him. Let in 56 goals in 22 games.

I don't think Gunn is worse than Bazunu.

    Never heard of Granger.

How old do you think I am!

Yeah I wasnt replying to anyone in particular, was just thinking about it earlier and struggled to think of a worse one I've seen.

I really don't think he is looking better tbh.

I mentioned the great Dave MacLaren earlier. To be fair, Campbell Forsyth had broken his leg and Gerry Gurr was relatively untried, so why not buy the Wolves keeper who we had knocked 9 past a while before? Such a Saintsy thing to do!

No worries, I wasn't biting, just being a bit more accurate on my point.

At the moment the conversation is a bit moot as neither is a great option but with "most" things being equal between them I'd usually advocate taking the one that could learn to be better.

I think in recent history (ie last few decades) we've had some abnormally good keepers for a team of our usual standing.
