As a ‘neutral’ took my 2 eldest aged 9 & 7 to see Saints beat Liverpool in 1986 at the Dell. Had to remind them there were no replays at a live match. But we err instantly converted and have remained Red and White ever since. The eldest now in Australia never misses a game
I think this will be a cracking game with two sides both playing football the right way. If we can neutralise Antonio (Salisu?) and pick up with our counters we can get 3 points. Reckon team will be McCarthy, Tino, Stephens, Perraud, Romeu, JWP, Ely, Redmond, Adam A, C Adams. Thats said, Tella and Broja will both feature at some point. Although unlikely to play, it's good to hear Smallbone joins in for training from today.
West Ham always beat us and are better than us so I’m expecting us to lose. Hopefully see some promising things during the game though, 3-1 loss
Not at St Mary's they don't. We've got a terrible record at their place but we drew 0-0 last season. I think last 5 at St Mary's is won 2, drawn 1, lost 2.
I'd like to see Tino playing in front of Kyle. They should pin most oppositions back and lay on a few for Adz n' Che. Tino played his first game for the England U21s 2-0 win over Kosovo last night playing in an advanced role.
I’m torn with Broja, I don’t want a loanee completely pushing out a full player as that will create issues in the future, but his performance against Newport and in internationals suggests he should be given a shot in the starting XI.
So, he should start in the PL based on performances against Newport and San Marino? He was pretty anonymous when he came on against Newcastle. Needs to make an impact off the bench in the league before he displaces one of Adams or Armstrong.
He scored against Hungary as well, which was an important goal. I’d say he has done enough to deserve a crack at it, although two of those three are lower level opposition he has scored more freely so far this season than Adams at least and Adams got to play Moldova in that as well. EDIT - Although it might be worth seeing a few more games first.
no it’s won 1 drawn 1 lost 3 We haven’t beaten them since 2017 full stop, they have our number recently. Oh and the point that they are better than us makes them favourites
In place of Adams or Armstrong though? Armstrong's had a decent start to his Saints career and is in the process of forming a good partnership with Adams. Ralph isn't going to change that because Broja has done well against some second or even third rate teams. I like the look of Broja don't get me wrong but we need Adams and Armstrong playing together.
All we need now is for Tom to say that Broja will never cut it and we have a 35 goal a season striker
This. I think the partnership is showing real potential. Hopefully they will give everything on the pitch so that if /when they tire we can introduce fresh legs with Tella and Broja.
