Match Day Thread Saints v West Ham - K.O. 3pm Saturday 19th August

Genuine question Ian, as I'm confused. Were you listening on the radio, watching a stream, watching live, or a combination?

At the match, listening to the commentary on the radio.

 

Agree on most of what you said there, but I didn't think SD had a great game in all honesty.

 

Ok, back from the game- a few points.

Great result but the performance was well down from the Swansea game.
We were rather static, with little urgency off the ball to give an option.
Cedric had a decent game, but has never scored for Saints and I suspect that he never will. Should be forbidden from trying and fined every time he shoots.
West Ham effectively threw the game away with poor discipline and judgement.
You can never under estimate the intelligence of millionaire football players.

Overall, an entertaining afternoon with more nervous moments than there should have been. Oh, and I felt like there should be a chant which goes, "two-all and you ****ed it up"

 

At least our game is going to be analysed this week...

 

Following on from Stephens last week, I think this week Yoshida was my MOTM.

Performance nowhere near as good as last week, but a very good result. And fundamentally that is what matters most.

I'd have had Long on, possibly for Tadic, about 20 mins before he did finally come on. Davis I thought had a decent game (that first half shot aside!). Bertrand easily had one of his worst though. So often this side link up well out wide to get in behind the defence - the right hand side in particular today - so it is frustrating that so rarely does it lead to a goal, or even a decent chance. Hopefully another attacker can solve that somewhat.

Always happy to see West Ham. Especially given the way that the tried every possible thing to delay the taking of that last penalty. Fair play Austin, held your others (when others would not have!). Hart did make it easy for him though!

 

4-2-3-1 is our formation

 

We need better quality in central attacking midfield. It's not a position JWP is any good in yet for me. And Davis cannot shoot at all so he can't play their either. Hopefully we can strengthen there; we need to.

I guess. Thinking about it, Morgan didn't score for ages and how long was Jayrod "one goal "? Maybe he will surprise me, but his attempts have been well wide, to be frank.
