Yeah have mentioned the goal to a few friends who all support different teams and the response from all of them have been the same "don't think it was that good, more crap defending". Rubbish defending never gets mentioned when someone like Messi scores a goal like that, people just assume the defender isn't crap but gets made to look bad by Messi's ability.

Whilst I agree with your point I think the giggs goal is a bad example as it was the winner in extra time of an FA Cup semi final so will always be remembered more.

A better example would be Payets goal against Boro last year... Everyone raved about it for weeks and not as good as this one imo.

That video really highlights how important it is to have multiple players running into the box. Gabbis run made Dawson very briefly look over before deciding to stick with Boufal which seemed to unbalance him, and Hegazi who had started to move toward Boufal was then dragged away by Austins run. Of course Boufals speed, balance, poise, skill and finish were all important. But it would have been much easier to defend without the Saints runners.

Absolutely. Also, let's not forget that WBA are a well drilled defensive outfit so even unbalanced in transition as they were, they weren't going to concede easily. True, it was late in the game, but they were still trying to stay as a compact defensive unit as they were retreating. Gabby was playing tricks with their heads by making his sideways run, and Charlie was running through them, with Nathan providing width on the right. Yeah, Sofiane could have passed it but coaches always talk about being brave on the ball, and if Boufal can't be brave with his technical ability then who can.? So I'm certainly glad he went for it.

I still have a tiny, tiny bit of sympathy for the 2 defenders who collided, especially given their fate in that version of events...

Let’s hope his next 2 goals don’t take a year to get! Seriously though, some on here have been raving about him, but he needs to show he can do it more regularly. Of course, it does mean he needs to start more regularly.....

Good to see our “forgotten player” (JWP) in the clips .... :emoticon-0101-sadsm

Interesting to note that all 3 were great winning goals in dire 1-0 wins.

If you've not read his autobiography, Alan Ball was given an instruction in the '66 World Cup games - get the ball and give it to Bobby Charlton. He used this advice when managing Saints. Get the ball and give it to Le Tiss, he commanded. Got the idea, Mauricio?

Can't liken Boufal to MLT too much. Sofiane gets caught out show boating....something that didn't happen too often to Matty. There's a time for twizzly bits and a time for simple passes....something I'm sure SB will learn. Nice to have someone who can do the fancy stuff though....may liven up the games.
