Gazza- (5) - I'm a huge fan of his, but this was his poorest performance to date, distribution wasn't as good as usual, shouldn't have passed to Yoshida when he did, which led to goal. Dropped a couple of crosses. I'd still stick with him though.

Clyne - (8) - Is getting better by the match, didn't see him make any defensive errors and he looked dangerous going forwards. I don't think Adkins should under-estimate how well he links up with Puncheon in attack either. They read each others games very well and create nightmares for the opposition down the right.

Fonte - (7) - much better no howlers and was sensible in possession.

Yoshida - (6) - I stand by my view again on Maya, he's not a bad defender, but is a horrible footballer with the ball at his feet. Should of just got rid of the ball that led to the goal, although Gazza had sold him a **** situation. Basically needs to read what a dangerous situation is faster.

Shaw - (7) - for a 17yr old making his debut in a bottom of the league, shaky defence you couldn't have asked for much more. Get the feeling he was told not too worry about attacking, but just to protect against the Right Winger getting in behind him. I expect to see him again against QPR.

Cork - (8) - did everything that Davis did wrong last week. Tidied up in front of the defence, distributed well, and seemed to appear in acres of defence in their half. Hold my hand up, I didn't realise how much we were missing this lad.

Schneiderlin - (7) - quieter today, but I'm sure he didn't have to work so hard because of Cork, you can see he trusts Jack to do his job. On 4 yellows now, looks like he'll be missing a match fairly soon.

Ramirez - (6) - better than against QPR, but you can see he still isn't match sharp. Encouragingly though you can see the sparks, and he was cursing himself at times, you can see the frustration. He'll come good.

Lallana - (8) - I heard people moaning about Lallana as I left the ground and I just don't get it. Never gave up on any tackle, works himself into the ground, and by far and away looks the most likely to make something happen. Plus when he's on the ball you can see the opposition are scared stiff.

Puncheon - (7) - looked dangerous again and linked up with Clyne well, needs to improve his final ball slightly and he's laughing.

Lambert - (6) - worked well as a target man to bring others into the game. But to be honest he just never looked like scoring, would have been nice to see a change upfront with 15 to go as he looked spent.

Fox - (6) - limited time to do anything, but but some decent balls into the box with the time he had. Didn't commit any howlers.

I like lallana but I think sometimes along with punch he tries to do far too much. If he released the ball sooner the opportunity wouldn't go missing. Also there were times in the game when I wanted some one to have the balls and shoot instead of passing sideways

Gazza -6 didn't look confident, dropped a cross, pretty poor distribution with one game changing cock up
Clyne - 8 best 90 minutes he's played as a right back, played one beautiful through ball into puncheon, and was defensively excellent. Has it all except for perhaps aerial dominance.
    Fonte- 7 very solid
Yoshida- 7 though he was superb apart from one very poor touch, he was decent going forwards and very sound defensively. Made one absolutely brilliant interception from a low cross.
Shaw- 7 was pretty good did not much wrong at all, stood up to swansea's thorough examination. Was a good part of our best defensive performance.
Schneiderlin- 8 brilliantly taken goal, can't remember a whole lot else from him perhaps could have shot instead of making a poor pass to lambert inside the box. Great to see him getting into attacking areas as he he has caused some trouble and will get better at it quickly i think.
Cork - 8 loved having him back in the side was quality for 90 minutes couldn't ask for more from him.
Ramirez - 7 Created some of our best chances, Lamberts header that just missed, the ball to fonte, had a few decent shots as well. Will play much better than today but he still did enough. May have given the ball away a fair bit but was quality many times.
Puncheon- 7 thought he played well but doesn't quite suit our style of play, I would rather play Mayuka or Rodriguez but he played well enough to keep his place, had a very good 2nd half.
Lallana Mom 8- was the best player on the pitch today, should have had 2 penalties tried his hardest with no luck.
Lambert - Got the better of williams with the assist and many dangerous knockdowns, should have scored from ramirez's corner. Apart from that one chance the final ball to lambert wasn't quite good enough.

Fox 6 - was quite good

Thought today was our best 90 minute performance since the manchester games, if this team can play a few games together we will pick the points up there can be no doubt. We have too much quality in attack for at least half of the teams in the premier league, and our defense is improving with every match.

Was at the game for a change so can't give ratings as getting caught up in the atmosphere always clouds my judgement :)

As for the Lambert statements he was immense won virtually every header and for those who say he should stay inthe centre........have you not watched him for the past 3 seasons? He always works in the left to centre area interchanging with Lallana. Poster earlier says he hasn't been at his best since the Villa game. Look where he played against Villa and I think you'll fid the same. Playing from centre to the left, interchanging with Lallana. In fact for at least 3 of the goals I think you'll find he is around the left corner of the box.

That is his strength area and when he and Lallana get that little act on is when Saints really become dangerous.

Gutted for Adkins and Gazza today. Felt for both of them when the mistake happened. Don't blame Yoshida for it. I'm pretty sure he was not expecting that ball to come back to him even if he was pulling out wide to give options.

Great game today, One of those that showed we are better than our position and for all the points are all that matters posters, I think we will get points. Enough to stay up? who knows but we aren't going down on record points lows or anything near that. This side will win games, just this poor start may well cost us come May.

Thank you all for making my first (and maybe only) game of the season such a buzz. Great atmosphere today :)

Impsaint, interesting to read that you didn't rate players because you were at the game; how do you manage to rate them when you're not there, or do you only rate them when it's live on tv?

You cannot be serious! Ramirez played the defence splitting pass several times, and showed touches of real class. Not his fault if no one else read it. Him, Cork and Spiderman were all superb imo. As for Ricky, he looked a little drained of confidence when he did have chances, but generally won everything in the air, and got an assist for the goal. Not at his very best, but still a constant threat.

I have watched every game this season live :) Yesterday in the stadium. Every other one on a stream. Not missed a minute (apart from the odd having to switch streams.) However watching a game in the stadium with the atmosphere, with getting caught up in the actual event I can say hand on heart only seeing each action once in real time from one position things seem much different to the 'perfect' angle on TV and so I reserve a full judgement there. You can often see things much differently when at the actual event :)

Thats how I can rate every game. Not hard tofind a live stream even if sometimes you have to keep switching. LSHunter always has at least one that works, normally several.

Gazzaniga - 5 - Looked nervous even before the mistake, but he's young and he'll learn. Has the makings of a very good keeper. We need to stick by him, let's not forget that Kelvin has done alot worseand we've still stood by him.
Clyne - 7 - Got up the line well and combined well with Puncheon. Might have won us a penalty when their defender had arms all over him, but he stayed on his feet and the ref missed it.
    Fonte - 7 - Solid display
Yoshida - 6 - Not really at fault, but it takes the gloss off an otherwise decent performance
Shaw - 7 - Impressiive full debut for the kid. Did well to stay close to their winger.
Cork - 8 MOTM - Typically dynamic and industrious display. Tired a bit towards the end, but really kept the ball moving for us.
Morgan - 8 - His usual classy self and a nice goal.
Puncheon - 7 - Had a pretty good game, though he can be quite frustrating to watch.
Ramirez - 6 - The lad showe glimpses of quality, but his perfmance was laboured, probably due to match fitness. Hopefully he's back to his best soon as he's in a position to be really influential.
Lallana - 8 - Good game and unlucky not to win a penalty. Needs to cut out the diving though.

RGM - giving Yoshida a 3 is ridiculous. Yes he was one of two players who made a howler to cost us 3 points, but he had a solid game that aside.

They both lost 3 points for the goal. I don't really think they have much excuse. We didn't look like conceding all game and they threw it away

Seeing as Gazza and Yoshida combined to directly lose us two points, I think dropping ratings is fair enough.

Gazza 6 OK except his part in the goal
Clyne 7 Sound defensively, threatening without delivering going forward
    Fonte 7 Sound defensively
Shaw 7 Did all that was asked, only times he struggled was when Lallana was ''helping him out'
Puncheon 7 Patchy but when good, very good, little threat down our right to our goal because Clyne and Puncheon have an understanding.
Spiderman 8 A goal, and a strong performance.
Cork 6 Excellent considering this was the first game back, BUT and in my mind it is a big BUT, he decided half way into the Swansea half to go backwards when there was an easy ball wide to Clyne and WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
Ramirez 6 Good and bad in equal measure, lets hope he is sharper when he is fully fit..
Lambert 7 Won the ball all afternoon in the air, good set up for the goal. Missed the near post header that would have been the winner. Not as sharp on the ground as he can be.
Fox 7 Did more than I expected

    MOTM Spiderman

PS Lallana 6 good going forward, not a defending bone in his body...

You have got to be joking. He was 100% at fault for Swansea's goal. Yoshida was played into all sorts of trouble by him. Idiotic, naive thing to do from him. He can't be our number 1 this season, he will make more **** ups like this and we can't afford them.

Yoshida wasn't to blame. It was 100% Gazzaniga's fault, he put Yoshida under heavy pressure. I said this would happen, he would make a **** up that would cost us points and it will happen again. He needs experience at Championship level before he plays any more PL football. He would cut out mistakes like the one he did yesterday. I think he will be a top keeper in the future, but at the moment he's not good enough.

It's Gazza's first mistake, other than that he's been solid. It wasn't even a huge one, Yoshida was just as much at fault as he was.

Yoshida had got rid of the ball by giving it to Gazza who had time to clear it. It should only have been given back to Maya if had moved wide and turned up field, expecting the return pass. Gazza had a decent game and made one serious mistake, no reason to drop him.

Very costly though. All he had to do was boot it - not difficult. He did something similar against West Brom but got away with it.

Adkins will probably tell him..'Loved your ambition, next time boot it upfield apart from to their goalie.'
Many more experienced goalkeepers will have done the same as Gazza at some point...not a hanging offence. Repeating it may be.
