I felt that the first sixty minutes brought out some of the best football we had played for ages. As ever, Shane Long was superb and was a nuisance all night. JWP's deliveries caused all sorts of problems for Norwich and , after the concerted pressure in the last five minutes of the first half, felt we should have have the game won before the interval. During the weekend we saw some substitutions from Ralph which transformed the performance. Last night I felt that bringing on Romeu was the wrong decision. Too many niggly free kicks conceded and we began to sit too deep. I would reiterate what I said about Saints at the beginning of the season. This is not a bad side but we would be transformed to a comfortable, mid-table team by improving the calibre of players in defence., Too often passes from Stephens and Bednarek went astray and put us under pressure again. The performance was back to Ralph's old style and I hope the desire to experiment is now over.
Great first half 442 suited us well Everyone played well Particular mention to Centre Backs, Prowsey and Pierre, Shaney and Danny Last 15 were ... ummm ... tense!
Their passing was as poor as ours. Their defence shat themselves every time our forwards pressed. Cantwell was quiet. If they stay up it’ll be because of Pukki.
Aha,Holiday inn eh?well I stayed over with my Norwich supporting friends nr.Winchester, didn't expect this much fun. Thanks Saints.
Hassenhutl is has lost the team, JWP never lived up to his promise, Danny ings not worth what we paid for him.. I must've missed a few. I'm not watching another game all season, thank me when we finish top 10.
Exactly...in the past we seemed to get a point or three against a good side, get all excited and then go and lose the important games against our immediate opponents. We needed to string some results together and get our positivity back...be great to get something from our next game. I can dream, can't I?
Last 15minutes. Well I say last 15 but for me it's every time the opposition gets the ball in our half. It can't be right paying for a ticket and then longing for the final whistle, can it? That's how things are ATM. I think they've induced a nervous disorder. Anyway, after moaning about JWP and Betrand recently I have to say they both played pretty well last night, especially JWP who could hardly walk at the end he was that knackered. Last night the crowd were good throughout even after Norwich scored. All they want to see is effort and hopefully, some reasonable football. Yesterday they got both.
At 2-0 up I stuck £5 on a 2-2 just as insurance. Happy not to be £60 better off at the end of the game!
Having watched the whole game now, and I know this is stating the obvious, but if only one of those attempts either side of half time had gone in, the rest of the second half would have been different. Boufal would have come on instead of Romeu and we might have had a hatful.
I agree, if we were neutral watching that game youd never have thought the win was in doubt. Watching it live, and not neutral wasn't quite the same. I was squealing like a piggy.
versus Watford: MAN OF THE MATCH (BBC) and in Garth Crook's Premiership team of the week versus Norwich: MAN OF THE MATCH (BBC) versus Everton: JWP and PEH cannot play the way Ralph wants JWP gets in because he can take a free kick and pen and scores occasionally there are players like JWP who have been poor and are not getting dropped JWP is a passenger 75% of the time this season Everyone wants JWP to be a standout player but he just isn’t. He plays too safe. You have to take risks at times. We had the ball on the edge of their area at 2-1 down and the ball came to JWP. He saw no safe pass and decided against taking a risk, so dribbled backwards until he had a nice safe pass back to the cbs... Who had no option but punt it forward towards the spot JWP had 'cleverly' worked it away from. St Mary's lit up with boos at that point - and who can blame them? JWP was a complete waste of space again, and captain? Do me a favour. This would answer a lot of my problems … JWP dropped Prowse is a waste of space
