I like this logic. We are going to win the FA cup this season. We rarely do so we must be due this time. :)

Just think of all the years we’ve played in the various divisions without ever winning a title. We must be due for a Premier League Championship too!!

The mathematical rules of probability are way over Merson's head as are most things requiring a modicum of intellectual ability.

Or to put it honestly he's as thick as ****.

I am trying very hard to decide whether I should be excited by the prospect of watching a Saints match.

So far I am feeling very flat.

In fact I would rather go shopping with the very lovely Mrs Godders:emoticon-0115-inlov when she wants to buy a new dress. Something I did once and vowed I would never do again but these are desperate times when you are searching for a bit of excitement.

Do I want to watch 90 minutes of side to side and back passing and a couple of missed chances or do I want to look at the rails of frocks in John Lewis's store?

Sorry but John Lewis's just edges it.

In either case come 5 o'clock on Saturday I shell be pissed off but at least in the latter case the very lovely Mrs Godders:emoticon-0115-inlov will be happy.

Merson thinks like a gambler, albeit not a very successful one. If the roulette ball keeps landing on black, it will eventually land on red. Each spin is completely random, but the gambler will always look for patterns - and probably say something about the "law of averages", despite no such mathematical law existing.

This phenomenon is sometimes referred to as the Gambler's Fallacy.

Very true. A lot of the irrational behaviour of the gambler has no basis in science, but still works. Just about every regular punter has at least one "coincidence bet" story, for example.

Yeah I used to bet on dogs/horses based on their names.

I remember once I came back from a rave when I was 18 and walked in a bookies later that day to see a horse called 'tricky trickster' - I immediately got a song from the rave called 'tricky disco' stuck in my head so stuck a tenner on.

    16/1 - lovely jubbly <cheers>

Just seen that this the first of 3 games in a row on tv for us. Don't see why they picked this and West Brom at home as can hardly see either of them being classics, would have thought there was better match ups to pick. **** ko time for Toon fans too, pretty sure their trip to Brighton was Sunday 4:00 too.

Obviously can understand Brighton being on TV.

Betting on red because it's been black the previous five times should work nearly 50% of the time, yeah. Betting on black because it's hot has similar odds, though.

This thread is very indicative of how we're playing. Christ, we really do need some sort of upturn.

My choice then is Church or Soccer and even though my Vicar's sermon will be rather dull he wins hands down.
