I think there's a good chance they would have. Newcastle had very few decent efforts on goal. Only Santon's header could possibly have beaten them really.
Is part of a goalkeepers role not kicking the ball into opposition players on the edge of the box, and in general not putting his own goal in threat by making mistakes? I would rather we have Gazzaniga in goal, making wonderful saves like his one yesterday, but keeping calm and collected, safely distributing the ball around the pitch, and having a reasonable and comfortable command of his area. That is a goalkeepers role, no?
You're being extremely unreasonable. Gazzaniga had a decent game, but he was never under a lot of pressure, and didn't have enough to do to warrant a higher rating in my opinion. Newcastle made it very easy for our back 5.
the guy has played less than 30 first class games, he had alot of time to dwell on the ball in L1 which he will not get now. He showed on Sunday how much potential he has
Of course, I don't think anyone is debating that, I'm certainly not anyway. But it doesn't stop the mistake from marking down his performance in the game. It doesn't make him a bad keeper, it just put a bit of a blotch on his performance, which as I've emphasised several times, overall I think was good.
I agree with this, watching the highlights last night it was painful watching his facial expression change when he realised the goal had been disallowed. The way he seized that opportunity though was promising, he's going to have a job to do for us at some stage this season, Lambert isn't going to play every game whether we like it or not.
