When you see it again, the Newcastle player (can't remember who it was) seems to purposefully hang a leg in so that he gets caught by Fonte. It didn't look a vicious tackle either.

I'm surprised folk are rating Lambert so low. The number of sweet lay offs he made into the box for others to use and profit by was terrific. He may not have scored but he puts the wind up defences.

Oh yeah he was looking for it, studs were showing though, you never know what the ref's going to do with them.

Agree, he definitely played his part, won so many headers and held the ball up so well.

Paulo Gazzaniga - 7, If only for that save alone! Looked nervous to begin with but grew in confidence

Nathaniel Clyne - 8, A good attacking display and kept their wingers quiet
Jose Fonte - 7, His best display of the season. Forming a good understanding with Yoshida
Maya Yoshida - 7, His best display of the season, although still a few wayward passes
Luke Shaw - 8, Looking the part at left back. Very impressed

Jason Puncheon - 8, Such a threat to the Newcastle backline
Morgan Schneiderlin - 8, He looks so much happier with Cork alongside him
Jack Cork - 8, Another all-action display in midfield
Adam Lallana - 9 MOTM, Tore their defence apart, such a stunning display

Gaston Ramirez - 8, Looked the part and linked up well with our attacking threats
Rickie Lambert - 8, Picked up a knock second half and looked unsure but a excellentl first half

We were ****ing brilliant today! It was like the second half Villa performance, for a whole match.

When we only went in 1-0 up at half time I was a bit nervous. Newcastle did start coming back into it just after the break, but we got the second at just the right time. Absolutely buzzing! Our front 4 are magnificent. Suprised no-one has mentioned that Rodriguez looked good when he came on! Did anyone see a replay to confirm if he was offside?

Gazzaniga- 9 - huge 1 on 1 save and a brilliant stop from a header. Made a vital punch also (i think), looked like it would be a free header..wasn't convincing at all but he dealt with it. Couldn't care less about the blocked kick. Very clever wasting time.
    Clyne - 9 - great again
Fonte - 9 - Immense today in the air stand out defender . unlucky not to score
    Yoshida - 7
    Shaw - 8
    Morgan - 9 - tirelessly pressurising Newcastle
    Cork - 8
    Lallana - 9
Ramirez - 9.5 - MOTM - Not just for his attacking play but he was quality today defensively. Amazing work rate.
    Puncheon - 9
    Lambert - 9
    front 4 were ****ing phenomenal.

Ref please **** off and never come back again. Deserved to win upwards of 6 nil. I don't feel I'm overrating the team either..I really think we deserved to win this game by a lot of goals but had no luck

He was offside it was very tight. I only had one look at it so I'm 99% sure. The thing is Ba and Cisse got away with plenty of calls. There was no daylight at all he could easily have got away with it. I think it was the right decision though

Replays showed that Rodriguez was definitely onside. We'd be very upset right now if we hadn't won anyway. I imagine Rodriguez is a little miffed though.

He was NOT offside. I've seen it several times on the television and he is clearly level with the defender.

Oh well. At least we won. Shame for J-Rod though, it was a well taken goal, which is just what he needs!

Congrats on the win. We were pathetic today but that shouldn't take away from your performance. Our football is dire to watch. As for your MOTM i'd say it's between Puncheon & Ramirez. Although you gave a very impressive team performance.

    Gazza - 8
    Clyne - 7
    Fonte - 8
    Yoshida - 8
    Shaw - 7
    Cork - 8
    Morgan - 8
    Puncheon 9 - MOTM
    Lallana - 9
    Ramirez - 9
    Lambert - 7

Puncheon beats Ramirez to MOTM by a whisker. Both sheer class.

Thought Taylor was absolute tripe for Newcastle, whilst Jonas, Ba and Cisse all didn't turn up.

And as many have said, the referee was just awful.

Ok. First look he seemed inches off hence very tight. I didn't get a second look

at least we won and it didn't matter. shame for Rodriguez. it's always hard to tell on a tight offside call with one look sounds like I must be wrong considering I went through the match thread and they think he was onside

Thanks. I think it's fair to say we played you at the right time. You have had wretched luck with injuries lately. Good luck for the rest of the season.

In my opinion. the main turning point was the Gazza save, you could visibly see the Newcastle players heads drop and they never threatened after that.
