Whilst I think most fans are in agreement now that Pellegrino isn't the right manager for us, I haven't seen anyone who has put all the blame on him. It is impossible to. The board have to take some share for either appointing him/keeping him/not backing him/selling everyone/not buying good enough replacements or a combination of all of those. If we get relegated I would be placing the blame squarely at the board and Les Reed's feet.
We're agreed on who to blame then, if the worst happens. Who gets the credit if we stay up? Carillo maybe, if he goes on a scoring run?
Nobody as we probably will stay up by the skin of our teeth which would be a disappointing season all round anyway. Regardless of staying up or not we need a pretty big change at management level. I think everyone is agreed at who would be to blame tbh, even if it is varying degrees of blame. After all the board did appoint Pellegrino in the first place if someone thinks it is mainly his fault.
I think it more likely his judgement at this level of football........The vast majority of the players he has at his disposal are young and are full internationals. Not to mention they reached the giddy heights 7/8th over the last 3 seasons not forgetting our exclusion in the European leagues where we did not do so bad either. Mopo's lack of experience in the English game has been his downfall and to a certain extent lack of proper backing from the board.
Agree with this Archers (phew!) though I'd suggest that Gabbi is at least equal to Austin in terms of finishing chances. We just haven't provided him with any in as long as I can remember (the goals he has scored have been chances he's worked for himself).
Again to me this falls down to style. Our weakest position in the squad is that central creative player (we rarely play Boufal or Tadic there). Gabbiadini would thrive on little through balls as his movement is good. We get the ball wide for Bertrand to cross into the box or Cedric to cross into the stand, it is no wonder that Austin has been our biggest threat when we play like this due to zero creativity coming through the middle.
Completely agree. Where Gabbi is also good is on the near post run to connect with low driven crosses.....which we also haven't done whilst he's been on the field.
I'd dispute Gabbi being as good a finisher as Austin. Better all round player for sure but he's never been truly clinical.
Anyway, just to put the garnish on the ****-sandwich the football gods have served up this weekend, I just clocked on for an 8 hour shift with a very voluble Liverpool supporting Bulgarian colleague, who sprays bits of spit at you when he gets excited. Oh joy.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...nsists-Pellegrino-not-blame-terrible-run.html Romeu says it isn't the manager, but the players at fault. I agree....it's the players on the pitch that have the final say on what happens. The manager picks the team so any errors there are down to him, but these are professional highly paid players for heavens sake. They ought to be able to pull something out of the bag on occasion....they aren't schoolkids who need constant instruction. The same problem as last season....team get chances, but struggle to do enough with them.
I guess I 'm kind of beyond blame and credit at this point. I think we would all need a lot more inside info. if we were going to do that. But more importantly, it's not really productive. I just think that-- assuming we are trying to be a PL team-- that things are bad enough that we just need to start over. Which means a clear out at all levels. So that means Reed should go, Pellegrino should go, a good portion of the squad needs to be replaced, maybe academy coaches, scouts, reprogram the black box. I'm sure that there's some people/players who are technically doing a good job, but our philosophies have changed and so they no longer fit. This iteration of Saints is over. It was fairly successful. We gave it a good go, and those who contributed can still stand proud. But like all things, it has come to an end. Time to start something new. It doesn't bother me if we do it starting from the Championship. It might even be helpful in some ways.
