So much this. I’ve been banging on forever about how this team lacks identity and character (which comes from the top). What I saw today was a terrified team. Funnily enough, it was typified when we had an attacking throw in - we had three players waiting whilst (I can’t remember who) had the ball. He should have quickly thrown in whilst we had three players free and just stood there, clearly thinking “oh but Cédric takes the throws from the right”. Waited forever for Cédric to come up, by which point the whole thing had broken down and Brighton got players back in position. Terrified team, terrified manager. I don’t care how much of a cock he is (actually that might be a good thing) or if he pisses off in the summer, but please get Silva in now.
Hey guys and gals, surely some kudos to me. Did a month with no drinking and watching this dross. Also had the extra stress of doing all the threads in January...and they were really in depth.
Spot on. What about the throw in that got passed between 3 of them before being taken? Watching that felt like watching 2 championship sides, one who was limited on quality but a well drilled outfit and the other that clearly has some talent but is so poorly coached it's untrue almost.
And that starts at the board level. The Southampton Way as originally outlined wasn't a marketing slogan...it was the idea that following a blueprint which involved fitting round pegs in round holes both in the dugout and on the pitch was the means by which we would become and remain successful. A club that paid that more than lip service would've turfed Pellegrino after ten games when it became clear that he wasn't the man for that job, though really they wouldn't have hired him at all.
Also: do we need another Bleak and Awful matchday thread, or are they already bleak and awful enough?
They are getting smaller and smaller. I will be down to the bare minimum for the West Brom one. If we get anything from it, the Liverpool one will just be a blank page.
Actually I was mostly pissed watching the game. strangely sober now! No sleep though! Watching the Saints can really be am awful experience, stand by my comment that they wholeheartedly deserve to go down.
Yep, that throw in was the one I meant. When the first person had it, we were actually on a breakaway.
So frustrating isn't it? Amateurish almost. We've got to be one of the easiest sides to defend against in the league.
One other thing. The starting line up was a team to play away at Man City and try and stifle a point. Not a team to play against a very average relegation rival. I did like the cut of Carillo’s gib though. As someone said, when Gabbi came on we had what should have been our starting line up (minus Lemina for the pretty hopeless Davis). Oriol has been off form for a while. Shane was dreadful today, I’m sorry to say, and looked even worse in a two than he did as a lone striker.
The first paragraph is my biggest gripe about the whole evening. Agree with pretty much all of this, been sticking up for Long recently but was very poor tonight. Agreed that if you swap Mario in for Davis then the team that finished should start at WBA.
Any manager that thinks Lomg should start in that team is clueless. Boufal on the bench too. I genuinely think Pelligrino seems like a good bloke but seems to be a poor manager backed by a load of ****. Big overhaul needed in the summer of the board and playing staff
