Imagine you are Cagliari.

On January 6th Saints offer you 8 million pounds. Then four days later, Saints offer you 10 million pounds. Why would you agree to that instead of waiting another four days to see if Saints might up their offer yet again? If Cortese is going to bid against himself, Cagliari will let him do it all transfer window long. Saints will end up paying much more for the player and STILL not get him in any earlier.

If Saints want to get Astori earlier, they need to gain leverage not sweeten the deal. If Cagliari believe that Saints might buy another CB and they will lose that deal then they might sell earlier. Simply offering more money does nothing unless they make an offer so ridiculous that Cagliari can't refuse. Which would be a lot more than 2 million pounds extra.

It looks like some teams are coming in for Radja Nainggolan now. I don't know if Cagliari will still need to sell Astori if they sell Nainggolan. Or at least they may be more hesitant if only because the fans would be pretty unhappy if they sold their two best players.

To badly in the ****, I think they will sell both.

Yet they haven't atm, Cortese is trying to get him for a cheaper price and fair play to him doing so. It's all about haggling, players are like cars you don't pay the full price without trying to haggle unless you're a mug.

Where have I said don't negotiate?

If you had to pay £2m more to get him would you? Or would you walk away?

Do you act like this when you buy your groceries? If they say "£10m and he's yours" and we offer £10m, they are not going to say no.

Before someone else takes my hypothetical scenario out of context, I don't know that they have said that. It's just an example.

I would pretend to walk away and make out I was after other players, wait a couple of days then go back. If they were still sticking to the 10m then depending on who else is about I would then decide to make a bid or not.

Problem is that Cagliari hold the cards, and if they want to take it to the last few days of the transfer window then there is not much anyone can do about it. I hope Nigel has other options on the cards, even if they are not internationals or Serie A first teamers. But whatever happens, I don't really expect to have any new players available until February.

They don't hold the cards they really need to sell, it's like Brum with Butland and Redmond.

TOMORROW - TMW - Vigorelli in England for the sale of Astori: http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/?action=read&id=413802

"Secondo indiscrezioni raccolte da Tuttomercatoweb Claudio Vigorelli si troverebbe in Inghilterra, dove è pervenuta un'offerta importante da parte del Southampton per Davide Astori. Il giocatore piace ancora al Milan, ma da via Turati non è arrivata nessuna offerta concreta al Cagliari."

"According to reports gathered by Tuttomercatoweb Claudio Vigorelli would be in England, where he received an important offer from the Southampton Davide Astori. The player still likes to Milan, but via Turati not received any concrete offer to Cagliari."

They don't really they need to sell, it's like Brum with Butland and Redmond.

I thought they were in a dire financial situation?

Quick someone phone their president and tell them "The fable of the blue few" - if they listen they'll sell up and be playing their kids by the end of the week!

Ps...sorry, meant to quote the post above yours!

They do need to sell, it's more like Bologna with Ramirez. They will sell him, we just might have to wait for them to realise our offer is the best they are going to get (hopefully).

I know they do my phone messed up when I was typing, half the stuff I put didn't appear.
