Edmonton is up for sale. I really hope Republic don't get involved with that Shower of S ! (Edmonton sucks!)
And can you honestly say that when a company owns multiple clubs, they genuinely have the interests of each and every club at heart? I doubt it, seeing as some clubs are just part of their pr arm for the lead club. And owners of football clubs should always have their club's interest at heart (I mean within reason, not to such an extent that they try to push through wholescale changes to a country's league structure) hence why I think companies should be restricted to ownership of a single club. At least feeder clubs and partner clubs are independent...
Aye he was and yes he probably was banned from our board but you couldn't (and shouldn't) take him seriously
One other lesson I'd draw from seeing Ankersen in action with Brentford and the whole 'Moneyball' thing. A lot of people (not here so much as on Twitter, etc) seem to have taken away that they concluded that academies were useless. That's not what they concluded. Rather, it's that the modern climate disincentivizes small clubs from running an academy, because there are a whole lot of off-ramps for your better young players long before you reach the stage where you can sell them for significant value. With the elimination of catchment areas, and the sheer scale of youth scouting presence, player moving prior to age 16 is pretty normalized. So that kid who was at your academy from age 9-15 could switch clubs when it comes to signing a scholarship, and you'd receive a token amount. Even if they've signed a scholarship, you then face another hurdle to get them to sign a professional contract at 17. You do get compensation if they move on, but it's not massive. Even if they sign a first professional contract, the length of that is limited. As such, you face the prospect of an in-demand player running down their contract, which could sharply reduce the fee you receive. So at every step, as a club lower on the pyramid, you are really lacking leverage. But that's as a Football League club. The corollary is that, as a club in the Premier League, you have every incentive to spend any excess cash you have on hoovering up talent, because the value-added is enormous. Moneyball at the PL level is diametrically opposed to Moneyball in League One.
I recall people (I think mainly on Saintsweb) getting mad that Small was only signed to a three year deal. They didn’t stop to realise that was the longest deal he could sign
Yup. And players have started to use the leverage that comes with that short first pro contract. There's a reason Tino's here. (And I don't think that's a bad thing. A player who can go be really good somewhere should have the option to use that leverage rather than spending the first several years of their professional career getting farmed out on loan)
They've also given the world The Mickey Mouse Club and for that I am very grateful. People also ask Does Mickey Mouse Club still exist? please log in to view this image The Mickey Mouse Club FC is an English football club that has been running intermittently since 1898. It peaked briefly in the early 2000's but little has been heard of the club or it's inbred fans since. Some even questioned it's existence altogether but a match against it's vastly superior rivals in September 2019 (0-4 in your own back yard) showed they are indeed still around but are now in Div 3 or whatever it's called these days and are "da da da da ****ing useless". They are now owned by Michael Eisner of the Walt Disney Corporation, who should know a Mickey Mouse Club when he sees one. Interesting fact ; MMC FC once had a 53 year old fan called Derek Jennings who got a 20 month jail sentence for punching a police horse. Luna the horse who was unhurt in the incident, said of Jennings, "you only got 20 months, why the long face?" She also said "it was a lucky shot, I can't wait for the rematch." "Got any carrots?"
Question: which club is the senior partner between Brentford and Midtjylland? Which club has suffered? Since their current owner took over, Brentford has: - Gotten promoted twice to reach the top tier for the first time in 60+ years. After years of being on the verge of collapse, they're a midtable PL side in good financial shape, with good young talent, and with a new stadium. And since he took over Midtjylland, they have: - Won the league three times (which, in the history of their club, means that they've won the league...three times). Won a cup (their first). Become a consistent presence in Europe. Who has suffered at the behest of whom there? These partnerships absolutely can be predatory. But there's scant evidence that this is what they are aiming at, given that one of the primary participants has previous experience, and that arrangement does not appear to have harmed either party.
And another ... Kraft and Ankersen both live in London and will make the short trip south to attend games — champions and league leaders Manchester City’s trip to St Mary’s on Saturday, January 22 is likely to be their first — but it’s believed they will not be attending daily meetings at the stadium. Semmens says he will run things on a day to day basis as before and they will set strategy “The checks and balances will probably change,” Semmens admits to The Athletic. “However, I once sat for three-and-a-half hours with Rasmus, and he didn’t say a single word I disagreed with
Awww stop dismantling poor old Pompey’s arguments with facts like this. He’s already gutted that Saints are back on the up. This is a difficult time for all Pompey fans
I’d far rather be poked by a stick by Pompey than someone from the “big 6” It keeps us on our toes And keeps us humble ... ish
Oh Pomps,I think I've said this before but despite supporting one of the most irrelevent and hopeless football teams you still poke your head above the parapet.Fair play mate!
https://www.southamptonfc.com/news/...onal-college-as-international-academy-partner Academy is now linked with an international partner. A not-for-profit based in a Malaysia which develops youngsters into footballers. Pompey’s “your new owners are evil” argument dismantled in one day. Love to see it
Nah, your owners probably aren't evil, just modern football is and remains a joke and that's where my animosity lies. At least your owners aren't literal murderers like Newcastle's.
Just watched Ankersen's ted talk and was quite impressed by him. Looking forward to seeing what the future holds. Our strategy is going to be to out-think the rest of the league, rather than out-spend them, and I think there will be more satisfaction in any success from that approach than there would be to just throwing money at players. Given the postponement and us both having takeovers recently, it almost feels like a mini rivalry has sparked up with Newcastle. I would love, love it, if they become the next Everton.
