Saints set to sign Filip Djuricic on loan from Benfica

Portuguese giants Benfica have confirmed on their official website that Filip Djuricic has completed a loan move to Southampton until the end of the season, terminating his loan arrangement with German Bundesliga side Mainz.

 

I'm predicting Filip will wear number 20.

 

Interesting that Ronald said that January was a difficult month to buy players, especially because Saints only wanted to loan in players.

So what kind of player is he? I know nothing of the fellow.

 

A 'number ten'. Tricky, skilful - likes to be audacious now and then. Able to use both feet, mobile and able to pick a pass and run at people.

Just needs to transfer those skills to the Premier League and toughen up a bit - I'm sure Koeman will get him going.

 

I imagine that because Mané, Elia, and Tadić will be ahead of him, the player he will be most directly in competition with will be JWP. This can only be a good thing for James in the long term, as he needs a bit of a kick up the backside at the moment to bring out the best in him.

 

I wonder if he will come straight into the first team, or be an impact sub?

 

Strengthens our options and another plus is having Gallagher back.

I wouldn't be so sure Chilco.... our Ron looks to have been very clever here. Lots of competition amongst those guys now. You could throw Long into that mix too when he is back and possibly even Pelle, as a couple of those can play centrally.

Do the business, because someone is itching to get on behind you.

 

Seems a sound acquisition for the run-in; creates a little competition for the other attacking midfielders and has the potential to score some goals too; an area where we need some improvement at the moment.
