I'm guessing this means the other out of contract players will either be getting new deals or retiring. As for Mouez Hassen, he was only ever on loan so this isn't an indication of a permanent deal, simply that he is not our player to release.

What I've seen of Hassen in the U23's didn't inspire confidence. I'm sure he'll go back to his own club.

That's a shame. I took in a lad, for a year, who was a bit traumatised by constant injury, and he was an ex-Saints Academy lad. All he wanted to do was play football and I'd take him to watch development and reserve games at Staplewood. This was about 2004-5, and I think Saints had released him about 3 years earlier, aged 13-14. So I know what it does to them. He could still play, and was very good indeed, but he couldn't train at the high level required without breaking down.

Re-signing Taylor and releasing McCarthy, first thing for the fans to meltdown over in the summer

Not sure but he's a respected and popular member of the group and tries to help the others as much as possible. So maybe...

There are always goalkeeping personnel required for training purposes, and seeing as Stuart isn't really going to get a game, that's the conclusion I come to. Saints haven't been prolific for years at producing a top home grown keeper. Bialkowski, for example, ultimately didn't have the temperament at his age, and was going through some sort of crisis in confidence when Saints decided enough was enough. Taylor could be a very good addition to the coaching staff. If Gazzaniga is going to make it he'll need the attention to detail.

You're getting confused between Jason McCarthy the defender, whose contract is up, and Alex McCarthy the goalkeeper, who is still recovering from the world's worst hamstring tear.
