The 4-1 scoreline in the FA Cup game was very flattering. Ex-606 members may remember I posted as such at the time. At the end of the day though the record book simply shows the scoreline, but 'demolition day II' it certainly was NOT!
Gotta say- the second save by James was world class. In the end- Pompey's class shone through- belhadj's goal was outstanding. 4-1 was flaterring though ..
James was outstanding that day, if he hadn't been, then things would probably have been different. But, Pompey were in the Premier League and we were in L1 at the time, so no big surprise you won, even if the scoreline flattered Pompey. Hoping Henderson has a Bialkowski-esque off-day on Sunday.
In contrast, I do understand Pompey believing they have a chance. Their form has picked up and we've dropped points recently. However, we're top for a reason. Over a period of time, we are the best team in the league. They have to hope they meet us on a bad day, because they really don't want to meet us when we are on fire.
I can accept James having a bit of worldy in the first half - all good keepers have them at some point. We deserved to be leading at HT, but you don't always get what you deserve in football. Fair enough. What's always wrangled with me about that game though was how early on Pardew decided to go all-out-attack. Pretty much from the moment Pompey went 2-1 up, he switched to three at the back - even though there were still another 15 - 20 mins left. Go for it in the last 5 mins or so by all means, but not that early. Perry, Thomas and Jaidi were not the fastest of defenders, and were just left completely exposed on the counter. 2-1 became 4-1 in the space of about 10 minutes.
http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/9425012.Pompey_yet_to_sell_out_for_derby_clash/ the "greatest fans in the world" cant fill out a 17,000 attendance for their cup final - n'awww
1) It's not our cup final 2) It is claimed more by Southampton fans that we're 'the greatest fans in the world' than by ourselves!
Looks to me like you're claiming that we claim to be the greatest fans in the world. At least, that's what I've seen in the past I believe.
I think (could be wrong) it partly stems from when you were being spanked by Arsenal on TV a few years ago, and the commentators couldn't stop banging on about how great it was to still hear you guys singing at the top of voices, making a load of noise etc. "What a fantastic set of fans they are" blah blah blah.
St Brendy, well we can hardly help what commentator's say! Saints Fan4Life..... I've seen it like once or twice recently but it's hardly a regular occurrence. I think it's one of those situations where people think we say it far more than we actually say it.
What a match that was against Arsenal that day ! They were awesome, unbeatable, and gave us a proper footballing lesson. Our fans stayed to the very end cheering both teams, even though we were 5-1 down at the time. Thierry Henry came back on after the final whistle wearing a Pompey shirt to an incredible reception. Not one Pompey fan left the ground early, unlike a certain team's supporters not so long ago, who left their own ground in droves around 15 minutes before the final whistle. Now who were they again ?................it will come to me in a moment................they were losing 4-1 to another team at the time.............it was like a fire alarm went off.............come on, someone help me out...............
I guess we will have to wait until full time in this game to see how many Pompey fans go early because they are losing. As we have seen before........or are you under the disillusionment it doesn't happen at Fratton Park as well. You can't hide it from the camera's can you!!! Joking aside truly hope it's a good clean game and both sides enjoy it no matter who the victors are.....COYS
No disrespect but the only reason no one leaves early from Nottarf Krap normally is because there are hardly any fans there in the first place...
