The problem, as usual, is there is too much football being played. These Euros are a joke, until the finals, the Champions League is a joke until the knockout stages, the Europa League is a just a joke. We should go back to simple knock out tournaments. But where's the money in that!?
All these games, mean we don't get the "Daily Express 5-a-side" tournament at Wembley arena anymore I used to love going to watch that as a kid. I remember watching Saints lose to Celtic in the final, when some flash youngster by the name of Charlie ripped us apart.
Welbeck is good against high lying defences, when teams sit back the only time he will score is if he is finishing off crosses. Rooney missed a fair few chances in the last two games but at least he's getting himself into those situations.
But Rooney is no longer a striker. He doesn't play up there for his club, so he shouldn't be our number one choice for the country. Once Sturridge comes back (and I'm no fan of his), Roy will drop Welbeck (also not a fan, but he's about the best we have) and play Sturridge and Rooney - who just get in each other's way. The chances Rooney had in those 2 games would have been buried by any decent striker, but we really don't have one. And I agree with Archers - the England players have such limited technical ability - because the Premier League is played at such a high tempo? - often that first touch means the ball is gone and the chance wasted. We need a REALLY good technical coach to take on the youngsters and get them to learn this from a very young age - or is that happening and it's just too soon?
I remember those - 5-a-side is a great way of learning how to let the ball do the talking and all about movement. Do they still do that in training?
I'll warn you Dave, when we meet next in the pub, this is a hobby horse of mine. If you start me on that topic, we'll miss the match
I didn't know England played yesterday. Awkward. Mind you, I was busy nearly drowning at a festival where I foolishly joined in with trying to break the paddleboarding world record, having never paddleboarded before. On the flip side, I am now a world record holder. Just.
That's their fixtures wrapped up until mid November, when we have another international break [yawn]. Home to Slovenia for Euro qualification, and then Away to Scotland [that might actually be worth the break] at Celtic Park in a friendly. Somebody give young Calum a minor dead leg, eh..? Nothing nasty.
Have to make sure Stones is also injured, or Roy will play him out of position at RB again, rather than risk playing a Southampton player against the mighty Slovenia. Or Milner, or probably Henderson, or Rooney. Or Wilshere.
Ah, you didn't get the memo. Stones is possibly out until 2015. Thought that was general knowledge, so didn't bother to mention it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29552025 No doubt Milner will play there. They did mention the other night about him being able to play at RB.
