No mate would love to but can't sadly. Have been up to Sunderland a few times though and always a g0od crack. First time was way back in the early 80's when Keegan was playing for us. Seem to recall we won 2-1. I'd settle for that score on Saturday!
This. Swansea are another club obsessed with stats on possession and yet they are down among the dead men as well. It's about what you do with possession, not the length of time you have it.
It's incredible that, after we struggle along with 1 point for ages, one of the media's heart throb teams are a massive 4 points ahead of 'sorry Sunderland'. Some of the media would be in ****ing tears if they went down and I'd laugh my bollocks off
Lack of confidence because..which Adam Johnston will turn up? Will Fletcher get his form back (or will he sold for peanuts) ? Can Catts avoid gifting a goal or not get a red card? Unfortunately we all know what our banana skins are. On the plus side Poyet and his assistants are getting us playing decent football, they somehow have worked their magic on Johnson now on Fletcher please and by and large we have sopped leaking goals. Do I want a win on Saturday..O yes I do..do I think for certain we will get one, definitely not..do I think if we can continue to improve we can win yep!
2 minutes ago Chris Foy has been appointed referee for Sunderland v Southampton on Saturday 18 January ‪#‎SUNSOU‬
It will be a tight game and a goal either way could nick it. Southampton powered us off the park at their place although we were left rueing all three points. Our back 4 is much better than when we played the 1st game I'd have been happier if we had a few new faces through the door as up front is where we have most of our problems. Bardsley and Johno are linking well and we are overlapping well on the left too. I'm going to go 2-1 Sunderland with my heart.
Tough game this, can't turn my back on the lads after the form they're showing. Would be happy with a draw but I'm going to say win to Sunderland by the odd goal.
Really it is taking, say an Everton as a guide, and having a good tight team/squad, where every player knows his job and where to run and play. Poyet is gradually instilling this, but it is likely we still have some round pegs in square holes. Once you have a good team/squad the sum of the parts is bigger/better than the sum of the individual parts. It takes time, which is something we do not have, Poyet and co have to meld, frankly a set of players who have been all over the place as footballers, including necking drinks when they should not, into a unit that a couple of players can come in and out off and not change shape..to be tight in the back, good at retaining possession but fluid enough to let flair take over in the final third. A couple of weeks ago my hopes were down and expectations were up for relegation. Now whilst we are very far from being a 'solid unit' we are showing signs...Southampton I suspect are a little further down the road of being competent side than we are, but on our turf with 40,000 makems screaming support I hope we can take 3 points and another step of many we have to take to safety. Was it on this forum or one of the others that Pictures of the Great escape were appearing, Johnson's head where Steve McQueens's should have been. The theme tine of the Great escape could become ours in the next couple of months.
Shows how quickly things change 6weeks ago we would probably have been strong favourites but now very tight.
Looks good to me, think I'll go Borini any time scorer though. Haven't had a flutter in a month or so
Really hard to call this one. I really like Southampton they have some excellent young players and can play good football. If the ref does not ruin the game (like they have with a lot of our games this season) it should be a cracking match. If we turn up we can win but I think its going to be a draw. I am away in America this weekend so I am going to have to try and find a pub somewhere that's open very early!!!!
General agreement on both Boards that this will be close. Think the bokkies have the odds about right but we will see.
We took a point down there when we were clinging on for dear life at times but we are in a totally different place today than we were back then. We are in a good bit of form but I only hope the players don't have one eye on the 2nd leg at Old Trafford next week. I'm sure Gus will have them well prepared though and don't see us losing.
