And I've never quite taken to Bruce Springsteen, despite owning two albums. Manfred Mann have probably given me more pleasure overall, and I don't own any of theirs.
I love Dizzy Gillespie's music. Quincy Jones once said that Gillespie was the most rhythmically complex soloist he had encountered. Everything Dizzy produced was heavily routed in exploring rhythm even though he had a reputation as very theory minded with harmony. thanks for posting this.
This has got to be one of the best blues ever recorded. Oddly enough, the chart is not by either Ellington or Billy Strayhorn but by West coast arranger Gerald Wilson who was still active in his nineties before he died a few years ago. You can tell as some of the voicings for the saxes are quitter advanced. I love Ellington's piano playing. Paul Gonsalves in the tenor soloist.
On Graham Norton's show, on Friday night, Jeff Goldblum was oddly good at the piano, accompanying Gregory Porter: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b09b7qlc/the-graham-norton-show-series-22-episode-4
Have you listened to “Nebraska”? That, to me, is the one Bruce album I can keep going back to. Absolutely brilliant, in my opinion.
Marilyn Manson guitarist Scott Putesky has passed away at the age of 49 from colon cancer. He featured on the bands first 2 albums (Portrait of an American Family and Antichrist Superstar) which got a lot of playtime in my early teens.
Quite like Steve Bernstein's MTO who take the ethos of 1930's Territory Bands and apply it to stuff like this Sly and the Family Stone tune:-
Just come across this gem of a documentary and worth an hour of your time if you have a fondness for RnB and New Wave band, Rockpile. What a bunch of talented musicians they were and they had a special chemistry live and were tighter than a pair of Aussie Rules Football shorts on stage!, look out for a few famous faces in the studio at the end... Btw, Billy Bremner (not the dirty Leeds player) is a criminally underrated Singer and Guitarist.
Strong lyrics in this Protest song, specifically dealing with the rape of a 16 year old girl and how the media dealt with the subsequent trial, lacking empathy with the victim and in some cases blaming her. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steubenville_High_School_rape_case
