How weird, was listening to moby over the weekend and was going to put some videos on this thread tonight. I hadn't listened to them for ages and ages. Very refreshing.
Curiously, after seeing a number of links to Moby posted here, there is a debate on another message board which has moved from the subject of contrafacts through to musicians who sample. I don't really think it is acceptable and there are all sorts of issues such as musicianship, cultural appropriation and royalties bound up with this. It does seem a bit unethical. I've been listening to Steve Lacy a lot lately. Here is a relatively early recording:-
