In the late 1980's, in an effort to stop listening to the same stuff I went out and bought Julia Fordham's debut album. I loved her vocal range. She was the low register to Kate's Bush's high. Even if she did sing slightly 'football crowd' at times, that is flat.
Happy Ever After is undoubtedly a good song, demonstrating her great voice, though I never got round to buying any more albums:

First time I put the record on the turntable I thought it had begun to suffer from wow and flutter. It hadn't. :)

"Argus" - fabulous album. Only topped (in my humble opinion) by "Phoenix" from their first album. Saw them in early 70s at Soton uni (or the Guildhall - hazy memory) and they were excellent! Did they do that thing where they start "Time Was" on acoustic and a roadie chucks the electric guitar to them as it ramps up? Always thought that was very clever!

I saw them at the Oval in 1972 doing that set, fabulous! What a day that was, Jack Bruce, Genesis, Focus, Wishbone Ash, and Emerson Lake and Palmer all in one bill!

Started as acoustic but the electric is now handed to them rather carefully. Still rocked though.
'Blowing Free' was given a heavier treatment which worked well, the rest pretty much note for note perfect.

I saw them at the Guildhall in about '76, maybe '77 :)

Yes - exactly. I don't know the ins and outs of the way the band are split now, but I remember the good times!

The great BBC DJ, John Peel, was born on The Wirral on this day in 1939. He was known for indroducing new and underground music and "breaking" up and coming acts on his famous sessions for the beeb...
Here is his favourite song, of which some of the lyrics are engraved on his headstone...
