This is an interesting break down of one of my favourite ever songs, which is a perfect slice of '60s social commentary written by Goffin & King, which proved that The Monkees were so much more sophisticated than their "Prefab 4" bubblegum teeny image.
Something a bit more cheerful than the football here. For the last few months, I've been working with the ace people at Cambridge Audio putting together a new podcast that launches today, called Made By Music, where we chat to some of the greatest icons of music about the tunes that made them. My job has basically been squeezing my black book until the pips squeak to book the guests. We've dropped three episodes today - Pink Floyd bassist, Guy Pratt, Boy George and Fatboy Slim. Please do go and listen, subscribe, review and all that stuff! Spotify link here - https://open.spotify.com/show/7xswVkRA6i2jjFicxLjnMf?si=0e698b9085a246f7

We're on our Lovers Holiday this classic from the Soulshake album From a 45 single, the stereo album version was poorly mixed so the mono single is much better.
R.I.P Andy Rourke, bassist with The Smiths at only 59. I could've picked from a myriad of options but this track really showcases him.
I love this scene from Tommy, she is perfect as the Acid Queen... She is inspirational for all abused women the way that she broke away from Ike Turner and eventually became one of the biggest female artists on the planet. R.I.P. Anna Mae...
Just saw this post, thanks. The original track on the Soul Mining LP was one of my 80s faves, Jools contribution on it lifted the song to a subline level imo. It always jerks this old git back to simpler times. Nurse training, besotted with a girl with strange hair, starting up the hospital footy team, riding my Triumph Bonnie, stealing cats, police raids. Well maybe not so simple
Heard this the other day blasting out of my radio system. It feels as fresh today as it did way back in the 1970s. I love the musicianship and the energy of the song. (9) OSIBISA - SUNSHINE DAY (1976) - YouTube
