Just finished it, just what I needed to chill after the football. Some amazing footage of Jerry at his prime, both on guitar and just chatting. And Pigpen appeared to be a model of sobriety at that time, which sadly didn’t last. Part of the sequence rehearsing “Candyman” was used in the Long Strange Trip series on Amazon Prime, which I might just watch again. Once again, thanks for posting this SA, a rare and exquisite jewel of a film.
21 years ago yesterday, Stuart Adamson, front man of the Skids, Big Country, and the Raphaels, took his own life in a hotel room in Honolulu. Here he is in his pomp with Big Country: And here’s his daughter Kirsten Adamson with her haunting take of one of her father’s best known songs:
Oh no this is just too much. Terry Hall has died at 63: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-64029430 RIP Terry
Truly, truly gutted by this terrible news, The Specials are just that, special to me. I remember hearing Gangsters for the first time and falling in love with their sound and quickly changed from being a Mod to a Rude Boy and Terry's unique vocal delivery was a massive part of that . That first album was groundbreaking and is still one of my all time favourites... And this is from the excellent Encore album from 2019... R.I.P. Terry...
Here’s Mark Lamarr’s excellent documentary from 2012 about Two Tone, the music and social and political revolution of which the Specials were right at the forefront:
Martin Duffy, the hugely talented keys player from Primal Scream/Charlatans etc gone as well. Lovely guy (and a big Fable fan too, bless him).
