Two of my favourite all time artists, just a shame that the sound recording isn't better, i'd love to have seen this whole concert live...
Have to include this one in the RT tributes. As Ashley Hutchings once described Mr. Thompson, one of the greatest English songwriters, one of the greatest English guitar players, and the third greatest English leg spin bowler.
I've been a big fan of Jonathan Meiburg's music for a while now and here are a couple of typically beautiful and atmospheric songs from Shearwater's upcoming album, The Great Awakening, out in June...
It’s musical connections time. According to Richard’s autobiography, also entitled Beeswing, the inspiration for the song came from the reputation of one of the pioneers of the English folk revival, Anne Briggs. RT admits to only ever having met the subject of his fantasies twice, and on both occasions she was already unconscious from the effects of alcohol. Here’s some of Anne’s output, a sublime version of Bert Jansch’s Blackwaterside. Anne’s still alive despite everything, living on a beach in the north of England somewhere.
Just found this gem. Anne Briggs famously hated the sound of her own voice on recordings, and quit music completely at the age of 27 in 1973, so the sum total of her archived work amounts to just 30 songs. She came out of retirement just for this TV programme in 1993 featuring Bert Jansch.
Just caught up with it on the iPlayer, she came across so well when she spoke, older than her years i'd suggest and a stunning vocal performance of a really fine song. Hope that the album sells well after this vital maistream exposure.
