Forgot to post this yesterday - in memoriam for The Big Man - Clarence Clemons of the East Street Band. Had the luck to see Bruce and the boys in Stockholm in 88 (I think - sketchy memory!) - what a great night! Seen him since with Jake Clemons who’s nearly as good as his uncle, but the Big Man will never be forgotten!

And, in honour of the wonderful and vastly underrated Nick Drake born this day in 1948. The beautiful “Riverman”

Ah, going back to the time that I left school and all music was fresh and exciting. Three legendary live albums were released within a few months of each other, perhaps some of the best of all time.

My friend often plays Neil Young. His output has never been on my radar. Having said that and endured the NY CDs that she has played, I would say he is a brilliant musician and singer songwriter. Nothing short of being a genius such is the breadth of his musical compositions.

Don’t say you never get any culture on here! Folk band Fling from the Netherlands did an album of Irish music about 15 years ago, including this brilliant version of W. B. Yeats’ “The Song of Wandering Aengus’, which should brighten up anyone’s day and sprinkle a bit of faerie dust on it:

Glad you like it! I’ve been trying to work out the chord sequence since I first heard it, I think it’s Dm, F and C but not absolutely sure. Always loved the poem and I’ve heard umpteen musical settings of it including dear old Donovan’s, and this is easily the best.

Norma Waterson included this Grateful Dead song on her solo album which almost won her the 1996 Mercury Prize, only to be pipped by Pulp. Here’s the whole Waterson Carthy bunch morphing a Jerry Garcia composition into a Morris tune.
    I ****ing love music!
