Andy Warhol, the leader of the Pop art movement, was born on this day in 1928. He was also the manager of The Velvet Underground and produced their classic first album and provided the iconic artwork of course.
And there was a wonderful tribute album about his life by VU members, Lou Reed and John Cale called Songs For Drella, (Warhol's nickname was "Drella", a contraction of Dracula and Cinderella).
Happy Birthday to Kristin Hersh, founder and frontwoman of one of my personal favourites, Throwing Muses, who is 51 today...
Fancied a few guffaws last night, and the first time I had watched Horrible Bosses I grinned so much my cheek muscles hurt. Then, a couple of days later I thought, what the hell I'll watch the sequel. Only sequels are never anywhere near as good as the originals. Only I was wrong, because Horrible Bosses 2 is actually pretty damn funny too, and in it's own way, just as good. So last night I watched them both again, and I'd just left it long enough so that they were just as funny as the first time. But this time I really appreciated the driving R&B number by The Heavy, called How Do You Like Me Now[?] that runs through both films: If you haven't seen the films, they are a wee chuckle.
Haven't seen Horrible Bosses 1 or 2 yet, must get round to watching them. Fan of The Heavy though, the song Short Change Hero was featured in the intro to the game Borderlands 2.
Anyone of a certain vintage remember these dudes from the golden era of British R&B? Of course, R&B meant something different back then. More rhythm, more blues, maybe less melody. Anyway, this lot rocked, although I had completely forgotten about them until this number vpopped into my head unbidden this evening...
